That's one strange report... Interesting to say the least...

mlmbd
November 2nd, 2002, 02:46 AM
NOW AVAILABLE! THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL LURKER REPORT!!

This is mlmbd reporting from the Infamous "Land of LURK"!

FLASH: CHECK OUT THE NEW, JUST RELEASED, COMMEMORATIVE SPACE EMPIRES IV GOLD DIGITAL ART PRINT. TWO SIZES AVAILABLE. IT IS SWEET!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO SHRAPNEL ON THE $500,000 mark in internet sales, of SEIV Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who would have thought, "SEIV Art Work", an internet MILESTONE of $500,000 in sales of SEIV Gold, "Spider Man" and "MY REPORT". All on the same day!! I couldn't want for better company!!!

We now return you to your regularly secluded report:

It is vast, seemingly limitless, this area known only as the "Land of Lurk". One might get the feeling or impression that you are "TOTALLY ALONE". YOU ARE NOT!

There are, outcasts from everywhere here. The majority I would say, are the harmless variety. A collection of UN-WANTED, UN-CARED for, UN-NOTICED, by the mainstream, "MISUNDERSTOOD GEEKS". Of all ages, shapes, sizes and colors! Some of these, not all, are the the "HARMFULL VARIETY". They are obsessed with getting the individual or individuals responsible for their Excile here! Yet others, the "Ultimate Jerk" types. Different kinds of "Jerks", but "Ultimate" Jerks none the less. Next the everyday run of the mill "Jerks". No where close to the "Ultimate Jerk" class. But give them time, most of them are new to this! And to the Last group, that make up my new homeland, a group that is "totally oblivious", to the fact or circumstances of their being here. They by far the MOST troubling!! Must keep a close eye on them.

Now, what I have noticed MOST since my arrival here. Is there are an UNTOLD number of Users from where I CAME FROM, that belong here. Cocky, arrogant know it alls, that belong to the "ULTIMATE JERK" group here. PRESPECTIVE, Never having this one before! It is very, very odd indeed this "NEW PRESPECTIVE" I have been given. I will treasure it, believe me!

I do not want to start rambling, so I will end this here!

I have U/L some animated Avatars for your use, or amusement. Please ENJOY them, either way!!

I will include more Avatars, ship designs, animations with each future report.

So, for NOW, this is "mlmbd" signing off from "the Land of Lurk". I "THANK YOU" And I bid you WELL!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Thank you geoschmo!!

The art work is great, but I am thinking mouse pad. Not much of a poster person, either geoschmo.

I am sorry if some are annoyed or confused. It was not my intention to do either! I was trying to amuse and mildly inform.

There is a distinct difference between the interactive world, and the place where lurkers hang-out, i.e. the "Land of Lurk".

Maybe, just maybe, next weeks report will be more enlightening, informative and amusing! Here is hoping, anyway.

If you want SEIV merch... print your own. Many modern printers can print onto special paper which can then be ironed on to T-shirts. I have some Viking designs I really ought to get round to printing...

Just a thought...

Has anyone ever been to Cafepress (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/)? The could make most of these things you're talking about, and Shrapnel could sell them through Cafepress (with the exception of the merchandise it currently sells through gamersfront), or gamersfront could use cafepress to sell that stuff itself, though that might be somewhat convoluted.

Anyway, the Stainless Steel Travel Mug with "Take me to your Litre" and an angry alien face of some sort would be most excellent. I'd want one, at least. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Om! HLA!
Ninjas in SEIV.... that would be real complete ultimate super power... [visit ]www.realultimatepower.net (http://www.realultimatepower.net)

This is; mlmbd http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif , with LURK REPORT VOL.II:

Or, as I have so fondly come to know it THE SECOND COMING!!!

First on my list is to clear something up. For those of you that were confused, by the first report. LURK: 1. to stay hidden, ready to spring out, attack, etc.; lie in wait 2.to exist undiscovered or unobserved; be present as a latent or not readily apparent threat 3. to move furtively. These definitions are from the "NEW WORLD DICTIONARY" I'm sure "WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY" would concur. That all said. The second (2) definition of LURK (or as it is known on the Internet, LURKING) applies here. So, THE LAND OF LURK(my NEW home for any that missed it) is full of all types of people. Hence my paragraph, about JERKS and the like. And ALL of the other types that make up this community.

FROM THE FIRST LURK REPORT:

Now, to UPDATE YOU. THEY ARE ALL STILL HERE!!!!!

There were a few that ventured out into the REGULAR INTERNET COMMUNITY this week. But with NO luck. They were once again rebuffed and or ostracize, by the REGULAR INTERNET USERS. Tis a shame though, we were ALL NEW to something or another, at one time. In fact we ALL started out as LURKERS or NEWBIES. A fact that I am pretty sure, MOST of us have long since forgotten.

Ah well. Such is LIFE ON THE INTERNET!!!

This weeks GRAFIX'S ADDITION, contains several AVATARS and one ship (from a ship set that I am working on) it isn't very good. I cannot figure out how to get it from the modeler into a really good BMP. So by all means please enjoy!!
SORRY, This the link to GRAFIX'S STUFF

Val, concerning girlfriends. Why, yes you did. There exact number shall remain anonymous. Let's just say there are enough to make a two(2) week tour through them, before a repeat!!

As a dedicated lurker, all I have is time!!! Time well spent with a few very smart, nice and delectable honeys!!!

BMP's, I use DOGA, to start. When I finish, load them into a PhotoShop "type" editor to convert them, resize, and clean them up a tad. I have been looking for a better way. Have 100's of designs. Some in file form, others just in my head waiting to made. Stopped making models, because the BMP's aren't very good.

Raging Deadstar,

Sorry, I will cut it down to a LURKERS dozen (fourteenv (14) or so). Now as to VAL's 1,000 TH post. A party to end ALL PARTIES. A party of untold proportions. Going to make the PLAYBOY MANSION parties look WEAK!!!!

Kamog,

I never actually said, FOURTEEN (14). I said; "I will cut it down to a LURKERS dozen (fourteen (14) or so)."

SURE, I can give you a little advise!! You are on the right track about probably needing to leave the house. Although you could sign up for one of Internet Dating services. Just have ALL the lucky applicants reply in person to your home address!!

If you decide that leaving the house is a better route to take. Try hanging out at the supermarket, in the produce section. You will be AMAZED at the results!! REALLY!

VAL,

Book stores are a pretty good place. The problem with them I have found is, those ladies hanging out there are not always in the section, of books that interests them. They are cruising, TOO! But other than that, they are a great place for meeting BABES!

The real surprise at the bookstore is when the girl turns out to be in that section because she's buying a book for her boyfriend!

Could help you out with the DoGA BMPs if you like, been a bit busy as of late between work projects, B5 Mod and personal time - but hey, gotta keep the lurkers happy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

What process are you currently doing to make the BMPs? Do you go into Photoshop and just tweak the pic or do you use photoshop to make the background black? What Version of DoGA? Do u use textures? If you want to send, post some I'd love to see 'em.

Usually I do a render in DoGA and then copy and paste it into PSP7 and do any tweaks (like running lights) then save.

If you are interested in trying your hand at a complete set based on some canon material we could use a few more sets over on the B5 Mod, I can send you top down scans of ships...

Val,

Yeah, I can only imagine your surprise. I was in one of my favorite haunts (cruising), got site of a amazing looking lady. Check it out for a few minutes, started my rap, WHAM, the boyfriend comes around the corner, with that unmistakable look of KILL, in his eyes. I said ma me might you point in the direction of the iceberg lettuce? First time I bought iceberg lettuce. WHEW!!

I would appreciate any help you are willing to give. Whenever it is possible. You can put it on the back burner, if you need. I do realize you have afew irons in the fire. Ah yes, need to keep the LURKERS happy.

I have DOGA 2 (soon to be DOGA 3). I use textures, asst. colors and effects, i.e., metallic, glass, shine, etc. I could send you a zip file of some ships. Yes, and at present all I do is load them in PSP7, or Real-DRAW Pro, and just tweak them. Sucks!!

I know how to render in DOGA. However I don't know how to render, cut, and paste the rendered model. How do you make image the right size??

I would be very interested in trying my hand at a complete set. Even just some canon material. You can email me the scans, and I will get right on it.

VAL, THANKS so much for the help. I have been sitting here going crazy, with all this designs in my head.

I am working on some Race portraits, as well. Just started working with gels!!

As PF said, it is a breeze in DoGA 3, download the free Version of DoGA 3 and you will be in heaven!

I did a lot of work in DoGA 2 before moving up and it was a royal pain. One of the best I came up with was doing a print (hit ctrl-Print Screen) screen and pasting it into PSP7/Photoshop. Get 3 ASAP! Much easier.

Yeah, send 'em on over to me either in a private message or to b5mod@yahoo.com - though that box might be full tonight if PF is working in overdrive again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Have had the looks that could kill happen a few times too, but hey, no harm in looking http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

mlmbd
November 12th, 2002, 11:57 PM
pathfinder, Thanks, loads!!. You are correct, it is much easier in DOGA 3.

VAL,

Got DOGA 3. Now to start, kicking some stuff out. OH, LOOK OUT WORLD. I did send you a zip.. Actually, I sent two(2). The first one lacked the attachment. NO HARM at all looking. Sure am glad cretins don't usually read minds! And bye the bye, the ICEBERG babe and I did hook-up several days later, at the student Union Bldg.

If you would, could you send me those top down scans of ships you were talking about? You can email them to me. mlmbd@yahoo.com

Kamog, as long as you remember to ask. A really surprising thing is how a 6'11", 380 lb, moron Neanderthal (ah, excuse me, i digress) can effect your memory, and your speech!!

And I am giving SERIOUS thought to advice thread. I SAID serious thought, not necessarily all serious answers!!

mlmbd http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Val
November 13th, 2002, 05:55 AM
DoGA 3 makes it much easier to kick it out, I'm sure we'll be seeing ship sets from you in no time!

Did you send it to B5Mod@yahoo.com ? I don't see it if you did. Right now the box is pretty clean, has over 2Megs of space open. Try to resend.

I'll scan in the pics this weekend, but they are pretty much top down silhouettes, so they are not very detailed.

You are irrepressable, where do you find the time to lurk, play SE and still have time for the honeys? I have had more than enough trouble juggling work, SE and a chick.

I think a dating advise thread could be a rather entertaining, can only imagine what we might hear, topics like - "How to keep your mate happy, while conquering the galaxy" and "10 ways to tell if the girl of your dreams can be converted to a SE junkie" (or the alternate title "how to Mod your girlfriend in 10 easy steps"). Maybe a few Posts from the married guys on how to keep a family and still crank out a dozen shipsets in as many days (along with AI - PF http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ).

Kamog
November 13th, 2002, 07:25 AM
Yes, a huge moron Neanderthal can indeed affect one's memory and speech. If my speech and memory fail me, I'll just have to revert to turning around 180 degrees (that's pi radians) and running away really fast. The problem is that a pretty, blonde-haired, blue eyed girl can also affect my speech and memory, even when there is no Neanderthal around!

mlmbd
November 13th, 2002, 08:44 AM
VAL,

I sent them to another email address. I just sent the zip. to the B5Mod@yahoo.com. They are all before DOGA 3. So tomorrow they will all look different.

The scans will be fine it will give me a idea of what you are looking for. There is no hurry, I realize you are real busy. So as soon as you get to them it will be great. I will make a couple and then see if they are indeed what you are looking for.

I have more than enough time to lurk, play SE, to some ship modeling, and still have time for the honeys. Irrepressible, not hardly. I'm just very efficient with my time!!

An ADVICE thread. The more I think about it, the better I like it. Rather entertaining, at the very least. There is no telling the things that might come UP, pun intended.

Kamog,

If your speech and memory fail you. No need to run. Just look him SQUARE IN THE EYE and say, "OOOOOOW you are a handsome one". Being dump-founded by a pretty, blonde-haired, blue eyed girl. Is not unique. Just take alittle time getting use to talking to them. After that all the rest is PRETTY easy. Really!

I didn't know what doozie means so I looked it up.

doo·zy or doo·zie
n. Slang pl. doo·zies
Something extraordinary or bizarre: "Among the delicious names taken by, or given to, minor political parties in the United States... are these doozies: Quids, Locofocos, Barnburners, Coodies, Hunkies, Bucktails" <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Huh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif I still don't understand what it means...

Ragnarok
November 22nd, 2002, 08:34 PM
Here is how I liken "Doozie"
I use it in the context of something that is great.
"It's going to be a Doozie of a story" could also be written "It's going to be a great story"

Or it could also be "amazing"
"It's going to be a amazing story"
Those are just some ways of using the word "doozie" in place of something.

So in summery "doozie" is something Grand, Great, Amazing, Extraordinary, etc...

Hope that helps..

(7 to go...)

COMMENTARY; Art is an amazing thing. Everyone has an opinion. No matter the back ground they are from. It it not measured or appreciated by the level of ones educational level, or academic pursuits. It simple is what is, one individuals perception, if you will one persons vision, into the soul of his model. It make no difference what or who the model is. It maybe a landscape, a sculpture, a still life, a photographic image of anything or an abstract design. It is this view, that artist gives to us! Like I said it (Art) is amazing, in any form. So have, by all means have your opinions. Please do. But also try not to be little the art. Or the artist. After all, they did supply us with their vision! A beautiful thing, from where I sit. I apologize for length. But I Thank You, for listing!!

Kamog, I THANK YOU! LURKER'S are reader's, not poster's. BUT, I am a wanta be NON LURKER with closet poster tendencies.

Raging Deadstar, it is not suppose to be pronounced. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif It is a pseudonym. This is going to date me. It comes from an idea I got from the Smother' Brothers, Tommy Smothers was always saying to his brother Dick; "Mom loved you best, Dickie". In my Version it is "Mom Loves Me Best Dude".

rags, believe me I never want to make it SMALLER!!

For those with some sort of Engineering background. You might find this humorous!

You Might be an Engineer If...

Buying flowers for your girlfriend or spending the money to upgrade your RAM is a moral dilemma. OR

You are at an air show and know how fast the skydivers are falling. OR

You see a good design and still have to change it.
AND LASTLY

The salespeople at Radio Shack can't answer any of your questions.

Kamog

It's not so difficult to decide whether to buy flowers or RAM.
If you have a girlfriend, always buy the flowers, unless it's your NOTEBOOK computer we're talking about.

It's very difficult to calculate how fast the skydivers are falling, because skydivers have an irregular shape, and therefore the math for the air resistance is complex. The calculation is easier if we are considering falling spheres, but it is still not that simple. It would probably be easier to empirically determine a skydiver's speed of descent by observing many skydivers and measuring their speeds. Once you have some statistics on the speeds, you will know the ballpark figure. If you know the distance from yourself to the skydiver and you have a stopwatch, you can roughly calculate the speed by seeing how far they go down in a period of time.

A good design is not necessarily the BEST design. It is very possible that the design may be further improved to increase performance, improve efficiency, or reduce the cost of manufacture, or to make it easier to service, etc.

The sales people at Radio Shack don't know what a zener diode is. They don't know the difference between a PNP and NPN transistor and can't help you select the best transistor for your application. They think that a transformer is a toy robot that turns into a car. Well, I'm sure not ALL the sales people, there, just some of them.

Kamog, I guess we're both engineers then.

The optimist thinks the cup is half full; the pessimist thinks the cup is half empty; the engineer thinks they could have designed a smaller cup.

I never bought my girlfriend flowers, I gave her books or CD's (must have worked because we're married now). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

DavidG, Engineers have girlfriends?? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Why of course they to. And a FEW, even manage to keep one long enough to get kissed. And after the kiss, an even SMALLER manage to keep a girlfriend long enough to have sex. Assuming the sex is EXCEPTIONAL! And after that, an even SMALLER manage to keep their girlfriends long enough to get married. Of course that number gets reduced buy about 50%, due to divorce. So, RAGS is sole survivor. All the other ENGINEERS have reentered the dating force!
Hope that clears that up!

Kamog, I rest my case!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

ALL engineers DO have girlfriends, if you count the imaginary girlfriends.

Well, why should someone spend a lot of money on a piece of jewelry that has no practical use? A wedding ring is a piece of metal with (usually) a polished stone attached to it. Does it really make a difference whether you spend $200 or $2000 or $20,000 on it? Given that the different priced rings have exactly the same functionality, it is logical to choose the most cost-efficient one. You can't go too cheap, however, because this is an emotional thing.

A calculator, on the other hand, does have more functionality when you buy an expensive one. The Hewlett Packard HP48GX is a very nice graphing programmable calculator with expandable memory.

By the way, Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) calculators are the best! RPN is more convenient because intermediate values are placed on the stack and can be viewed and manipulated.
Instead of entering this:
5 x (10 - 8 ) + 6 / 14 =
You do this:
5 enter 10 enter 8 - x 6 enter 14 / +
The only problem with RPN calculators is that when people borrow it, they spend 5 minutes looking for the = sign and then they complain that they can't use it. (And they're not interested in listening when you try to teach them how RPN works!)

And repairing a $5 radio, why not? It doesn't really matter how much the radio cost, you just open it up and try to fix it - just for fun!

Edit: I put "Enter" inside < > and it just gave me a blank space!

Here's another way to tell whether someone's an engineer: ask them what the square root of -1 is.

If they're not an engineer, they'll either give you a blank look, or tell you that the answer is i.

Engineers will tell you that it is j.
(We don't use i for square root of -1 because it could be confused with I as in electrical current.)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">When I used to skydive we almost always fell at the same speed. AS we can adjust the speed by making ourselfs have a greater or lesser air resistance. You want to fall as fast as the other skydivers so that you can do formations.,
If I recall rightly (Haven't jumped since 1994) we calculated that the avarage speed we fell at was about 190 km/h, wich we could increase up to over 300 km/h by either going headfirst, feet first or if several people in a circle put their feet in the middle making a wedge shaped formation with the point downwards. How much we could reduce this speed I don't remember but I do remember that it hurts when someone below you reduced their speed, "flying" into you from below.

I myself have hit a formation from below, sending them hurtling all over the skye, unfortunatly there was a video phografer present outside the formation documenting it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

It looks like a locomotive hits a standing crowd!
(we all have to be newbies sometime (or as it's called in skydiving , turkeys (a bird that doesn't fly)))

Technical people are specialized in a particular area, that's all, just as athletes specialize in sports, business people focusing on entrepreneurship, artists practising art, etc. Each one of us is unique, with his or her own special talents, skills and gifts, nobody is better than anyone else.

I haven't even started the next chapter. Life has been really busy. I was planning on working on it a little bit yesterday but alas, I was sick all yesterday. So I was sleeping most of the time. I got stuff to do today after I'm done browsing the forums and then tonight is sort of filled up. If nothing goes wrong I hope to write a little bit tomorrow. But thanks for showing interest in the story. It gives me some motivation to get the story written. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

David Gervais, the LURK REPORT is not done on a popularity bases. Or how active the thread is, I dont count Posts. It obviously needs to have some activity within the Last seven days! When I start to prepare the report I just log on and the way the threads sit is the way I report them. I decided to do this so no one could say I was showing favoritism. Is so happens I started this report very early this morning. Only 2 other Users on the Forums. there was no link to the 'Avatar Emporium' Geoschmo set up for me <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ah, I found the link on your thread. The Avatar Emporium is on the PBW server. I only report on threads on the Space Empires: IV Forum. I did give both the threads I saw mention.

Heck Man, it is a really great idea! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Maybe I should get into modding, just to get into the lurk report. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Won't help. WELCOME THE EIGHTH (AND POSSIBLY FINAL) EDITION OF THE LURK REPORT! Brought to you by mlmbd http://www.shrapnelgames.com//ubb/icons/icon6.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif ;

GOOD DAY ONE AND ALL!!! Hope you are having, or will have a GREAT Friday!! As well as an AWESOME X-MAS! Followed by an OUTSTANDING NEW YEAR!

FIRST, This is going to be the smallest LURK REPORT ever! OK, you can stop cheering now. Geesh! The LURK REPORT is going on vacation for TWO (you heard me) TWO weeks. MAYBE FOR GOOD. Since I started this thread. There has been very little feed back. So, in the next TWO WEEKS, you decide whether or not you want it to continued. You don't have to post much. Or anything relevant for that matter. Just so I know I am not doing this for MYSELF! OK, enough said on that.

There is only ONE item to report this week!

Ruatha, has been making additions to his FAQ or Frequently Asked Questions for Newbies. You can read all about it here;
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=005518 Go on, I know you have a question about SEIV!
He has also started a thread if you would like to make an addition. Or just help him out. You can get there, right here; http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=007663 Don't pass up the chance to be FAMOUS!

OK! That is it for this week. Boys and Girls!

So for NOW; This is, mlmbd http://www.shrapnelgames.com//ubb/icons/icon6.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif , Signing off!!!

So much for plans to get 2 mentions... oh well, next time I'll do it for sure.

The lurk report should stay! I still think you should find a place to archive all the previous reports for posterity and (possibly) reference.

The Encyclopedia Malfadorica seems like a logical place, or I could host the report on my site, if you can stand my habit of forgetting to update it for months at a time .

Hi, mlmbd

Although I'm relitively new to the SE:IV forums (Having spent most of my time prior to comming here in the Dungeon Odyssey forum!) I like your Lurk report and give my vote and encouragement to keep it going.

I wish you all the best for the holidays, rest easy and recharge your batteries over the next two weeks.

Cheers!

P.S. the only 'real' reason to keep the lurk report going is because you enjoy doing it! That and that several of us do enjoy reading it.

David Gervais, mlmbd, I just thought of something,.. what if the 'majority' of people who read this Lurk Report ARE Lurkers? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Really doesn't apply. I am sure there are plenty of LURKER'S (maybe even the majority) that read the report. But I am assuming that at least everyone that gets mentioned, or wants to get mentioned, reads it. That would be 10-15 Users. Since I started I haven't gotten (except for the Last report) that many responses in a week!

Oh yeah, btw mlmbd, MERRY CHRISTMASS! HoHoHo! <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">WELL A, MERRY CHRISTMAS! AND A HoHoHo, yourself! David

Hadrian, The only way to truely get a good idea of how many people read the Lurker Report is to run it as an email report for a week or two. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Are we talking about a subscription ONLY bases here? Would be a lot more work. But I am not opposed to the idea!

I hate to be a spoil sport here, but I rarely read the lurker report.

/me dives under cover as several APBs are fired in his direction.
/me sure is glad no one happened to have a Null Space Cannon...
/me just realized that he's not on IRC...

Usually, I'm too busy trying to keep up with my PBW turns or modding to give these Boards more than a quick overview. And when I am on the Boards, I'm usually more interested in gameplay or modding tips.

Now that things have slowed down for the holidays, though, I plan on catching up.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

(I don't know when it will be out as mlmbd said the report was on a little vacation) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

geoschmo, the LURK REPORT is not done on a popularity bases, how active the thread is (I dont count Posts), good news or bad news or if I think it is important, or not. The thread obviously needs to have some activity within the Last seven days! When I start to prepare the report I just log on and the way the threads sit is the way I report them. I decided to do this so no one could say I was showing favoritism. You want something mentioned, "Post it here". Even it is bad news! Oh, FYI Hmm, I would have thought PBW being down would have at least received a page two story. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It did get page two mention, along with everyone else that did not make it on page one! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

As to the <font color=maroon>HTML</font> matter. When you respond to a post. On the left side of the "<font color=white>Post a Reply</font>" window. You will see in every thread (right under "<font color=blue>Message:</font>") whether or not you can use <font color=maroon>HTML</font> or not. It is up to the creator of the thread. Same thing for "<font color=yellow>UBB Code</font>".

I may do this weeks "<font color=silver>LURK REPORT</font>" using <font color=maroon>HTML</font> and maybe even it's own <font color=aqua>Font!</font>

Iiiiiiii, Like it! the added color makes this report even more unique. (just a little too much purple though) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif but over all, great stuff.

Keep it up mlmbd, and keep having fun!

Cheers!

I like the new look of the report. But I got to agree that you used a bit too much purple, it was pretty hard on the eyes when you're trying to read that.
Maybe for your next report you should leave out colors that are hard on the eyes when you have to read it.
If you use the purple for a word or two it is fine, but that whole paragraph was just... Wow... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Other then that I liked it. Keep it up!

I'm divided. I like some color but at some point it gets a little too distracting.

For me, some of the gray didn't show up well against the forum background, but that might just be this monitor/color settings.

I liked the purple until somepone added another post. (Notice the alternating backgrounds). The light background works fine - the dark does not work well.

Anyways, here's another post to put it back on the light background.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Well, hump! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I will do the next <font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font> using a table. Did use one for the <font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font>. So the background of the report won't change from post to post. Live and learn.

Comment: Deceided to add the table to this week's <font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font> .

<font color=white>Thanks</font>, to all of you for the comments!

<font color=purple>Wow, I like the fancy new look of the Lurk Report! </font> http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font color=silver>As mentioned by others, I also found that the grey was hard to read.</font> But it's kind of fun that way, too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

It reminds me of an old game called Omega Race I used to play on the Commodore 64. You fly around in a little fighter and shoot down alien robots and ships. There was a settings menu to change the colors of the background and foreground. Normally, it's white ships on black background, but my friend and I had fun changing the colors so that it's something like greenish light brown on brownish green, so that everything was really hard to see. We took turns changing the colors for each other, and we kept adjusting it so that the ships were even harder to see with each game! The good old days...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hmm... see they grey and purple work fine for these old eyes of mine. But, then the olive drab of the Shrapnel Intel Forums already made it hard for me to read, so anything is good, I guess.

Arkcon, they may be easy on your eyes with the dark background. But look at them with a light background. I can't even see the grey with it on the light brown background.

rags and anyone else, about the 'gray' being hard to read! <font color=orange>geesh!!</font> The 'new <font color=blue>c</font><font color=navy>o</font><font color=maroon>l</font><font color=purple>o</font><font color=#9933CC>r</font> added' <font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font> is a work in progress. I could already tell that either the 'gray' text, the background color or both need to be changed. And still do. I put in the 'table' so it was easier on the eye for all the '<font color=purple>purple</font>' text. I will change it all for the next '<font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font>'. Wheather the next report is with or without '<font color=blue>c</font><font color=navy>o</font><font color=maroon>l</font><font color=purple>o</font><font color=#9933CC>r</font>'.

Omega Race was great, although I was never that good at it. I always bounced my ship off a wall into one of the polygons that killed me.

Omega Race... damn, I hhad that game, it was brilliant. Used to eat up hours of my time... It was thrust type controls, and the screen had a rectangular area in the middle. Collision with that or the outside edge resulted in instant death.

The bad guys bounced around at varying speeds in a pool-table kind of a way, and they would drop mines and shoot at you. If you were quick you could shhot their bullets out of the sky, and you could also shoot the mines.

Ahhh... great days....
