Re: why winspww2 and not toaw3?

Both games are good. And both games are very different. Most differences are clear from both games websites, and you can try SPWW2 with the free version offered from shrapnel.

Regarding paulo's...

Re: Air Farce Follies - Friendly Fire Isn't

Interesting thread, and funny that I find it now,
Not really a mishap, but in my currently running Soviet vs WestGermany 1989 game I had a SU-24 dropping its KAB-1500L on a Marder. Of course it...

Re: Soviet-Afghan war on WINSPMBT??

Thanks for posting "the Academy's" book.
What I find amazing in this one is how similar the Soviet initial plan seems to have been to the US plan for Iraq, and how both turned into an everything but...

Re: Lethality of SAMs

I think after the last couple of changes with EW etc SAM and AAA is very well modeled in game. I play mainly modern games (2000s) and I now "love" that an incoming SU-25 strike doesn't get killed by...

Re: AH-64 Lethality vs. Infantry

Same here!
If you use your Helo Gunships wisely, from hovering position of from very close range, against infantry in open terrain it's easy enough to take a platoon out with two appropriately armed...

Re: SEAD vs SPAA

Yes, things like that happen all the time. It seems that somehow some ARMs have very small warheads and/or nearly no heat or AP values, such they're quite useless as a hit doesn't do mcuh good. And...

Re: Iran\'s Past

hmm ghood point Plasma, I got carried away.

I think a monarchic Iran would be equiped with the most modern US equipment today. I guess the US shift towards Saudi Arabia wouldn't have happened so...

Re: Iran\'s Past

Had the Soviets not invaded the "Communist" government's collaps by the warlords would have lead to a similar situation as now. Maybe Pakistan or the Shah would have seen it fit for including some...

Re: Combat dropping AFV\'s?

For that I can only say that all WP manuals and Eastern Bloc military publications I have read state explicitly that the crew is not dropped in the vehicle.
From what I've read it would be more...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

Also take into account that for using the turret MGs the vehicle commander would need to open it's hatch. If there's enemy infantry nearby I guess it'Äs likely he would like to give additional...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

well and that might be another problem with the large flat turrets of the M1s. An AT-Grenade is not likely to fall off...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

Thanks for the infos AMX, but I contest your second point of reasoning.

Why should Rheinmetall sell it's production rights to anyone just becasue they want to have the gun?
Especially if one...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

You've got sources? I am really interested in the topic, but I havenm't found anything good.

EDIT: And personally I think the stabilizer in the Leo vid holds out better then the one in the Abrams...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

For clarification I'll try a "on the run" translation of the main claims of the German article.
I made personal comments in brackets () to explain things that might get lost in translation...

Re: Shoulder Launched SAM\'s

It should be.
If you take into account that for example the newer russian AA guns fire more then 16 rounds per barrel and second you can imagine the number of hits spread over the aircraft... On...

Re: OOB 024 -- US Army -- M1A2 Abrams

What is indeed interesting is that is a rather new article (January 2006) and supposedly from DMZ which is a quite renown military technical magazine in Germany, so i'd rather say the article has...

Re: Combat dropping AFV\'s?

Well, I've oly got a small part about it in "Militär Technische Hefte" about IFVs.
It says that the BMD1 is to be dropped without crew and that it worked well on many occasions.
I have read in...

Re: Austrian OOB - J35 Draken OSD

The RAF aircraft will be immdeately overhauled to tranche 2 or later on even tranche 3 standard before being actually delivered to the RAF. (at least thats what AFM states)
It's unique for the RAF...

Re: Austrian OOB - J35 Draken OSD

As far as I know gfrom reading a few editiosn of Air FOrces Monthly the tier one Eurofighters can't carry any bombs. It seems the hardpoints are not the right sort.
Plus they don't even have...

Re: Austrian OOB - J35 Draken OSD

The Tranche 1 aircraft are the first production version which don't (yet) include the systems needed to use AG ammo.
They are, like planned in the design, pure fighters.

Epoletov_SPR gives a good point though. Is it planned in one of the following versions to include Russian heavy sniper rifles?

Re: Why does the game treat US forces as less capa

Well, as far as I understood the game Morale and Exp is very important as hte unit then is less likely to get routed.
Apart from that I think the 'US Problem' is that the infantry units of the USA...
