Default Over 100 mines/sector

Did anyone here test that strategy where u and (for example) one of your allies mine a sector together so there are 200 mines on one sector.

what happanes if an empire that u both have war with comes into that sector with 100 mines sweeping-capability?

Is the result the same as if there were only 100 mines and the enm fleet had no sweeping-capability OR something else?

I'm asking this because in one PBW game one of my allies had 100 mines on a WP and I added about 40 to that (after he layed those 100!)... and when the ENM fleet came through I got a message saying that the enm fleet lost 10 ships to MY mines.... BUT when I looked at that WP there were still some 30 of my mines at that WP and the ENM fleet was just sitting on top of them.

This led me to conclude that there seems to be some sort of "top-limit" for the number of mines that can explode per turn... but I had insufficient data to calculate the exact number... if this holds true anyway and it wasn't a glitch in the game.

So I'm wondering if aynone has tested this ?

When moving into a sector, a ship/fleet will be engaged by all mines in that sector laid by empires that it doesn't have a Trade Alliance or better with. Therefore if a ship/fleet has minesweeping capability of 100, then it will sweep 100 mines (I think in the order in which they were laid) and will get hit by the remainder. The default maximum number of mines per sector per empire is 100. Therefore theoretically there could be up to 100 mines times the number of empires in the game in a given sector if all empires had peace treaties with all other empires and all laid 100 mines in the same sector.

yes yes, I know all of this.... but did u actually TEST what happenes in game when an ENM fleet goins into such a minefield... because your reply doesn't explain how the enm ships were able to sit on top of 30 of my unexploded mines...

I haven't done testing per se, but I have seen allies co-mine a sector in multiplayer games several times. I have never seen ships survive as you have described. Could it be that you laid the mines in the same turn as the ships arriving? I can maybe see this situation if your ship laid mines after the enemy ships were already in the sector. If this happened, they would not be engaged by the mines. Engagement of a minefield only occurs when entering a minefield sector. If they get laid (no pun intended) after the enemy is already in the sector, then there would not be an engagement.

The mines were layed some 5 turns before the ENM fleet warped through that WP. Someone should really do this test, I have a weird feeling that its either a glitch or some limit to the number of mines that can explode per turn.

it happened quite frequently to me that I run into this kind of minefields, and usually I lost my entire fleet, or at least large parts of it. so far all mines there that I couldnt sweep exploded. this means I didnt encount a limit like the one you mentioned.

my guess would be that the 30 mines that didnt explode were layed by you in the turn the enemyfleet entered that sector.

The time that I and an ally tried it they all blew up until the enemy made fleets capable of sweeping 200 mines.

The same thing happened to me once against the AI, as one of their ships managed to get in the same sector as a mined planet without any problem. However, it was an AI, so it could be one of the peculiarities linked to the AI. (Such as its ability to build facilities on the turn it colonizes a planet)

There was nothing like entangled minefields however, so if both events are linked, it may mean that there is *something* lurking in how mines are handled by the game.

It is a PBW game yes, named "3rd Cross-galaxy transwarp access Hub"

it happened in turn #69, I´m player "The Star Federation". Find a system named "Bizzet", there are a couple dozen ships in a WP at the top of that system over 18 of my mines.

I´m not at my regular comp. now so I don´t have access to that game file... but if you wish I can send it to you if you have problems looking it up on PBW.

thanks.
