Default Retrofitting units troops and weapon platforms

Greetings to all and thanks for making this forum so helpful to us newbies. I've been scouring the old postings looking for an answer to a mystery and came up dry.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to retrofit weapon platforms? Can't find this option anywhere. I guess it makes sense that you can't upgrade mines and satellites, since gathering them up would be a major pain, but weapon platforms are a pretty major piece of defense hardware that can knock out a battleship. You should certainly have the option of upgrading them with new technology or at the least scrap 'em so you can get some money back. Seems the only option in the game is to jettison the whole weapon platform off the planet. Now that would be an interesting sight to see, but I'd hate to see all that hardware go to waste. Does the same hold true for Troops and Fighters? Am I doing something wrong here, or is this the way it's supposed to be?

No. Weapon platforms, satellites, fighters, mines, troops: none of them can be upgraded. They can be scrapped, but that is about it.

This has been brought up by the beta testers, but there have been other issues of more importance to get addressed than this.

Sorry. I misspoke. You have to jettison cargo with WP's, troops, satellites, etc. I don't think you can actually can scrap ( get raw materials back) any of these units. This and upgrading has been a long term discussion.

Units that can be deployed in space may be scrapped if they are deployed in the presence of a space yard. So, satellites and fighters may be scrapped by taking the trouble to deploy them. Weapon Platforms don't deploy too well. So, there's no way to scrap them currently. It's very annoying to have to heave your weapon platforms into space to make room for the next generation technology. We hope for a change in game mechanics to deal with this problem one day.
