Default Air units-> no use armorpiercing ammo.

Why the aircraft all over again uses HE ammo and only after them - AP ammo?

Target - armour ground unit.
Air units silly shoot on them HE ammo.

It has been noticed both at planes, and at helicopters.

Becasue on aircraft, and aircraft only, the ONLY slot used for weapons is the HE number. The AP number is used to indicate the number of guns firing that weapon therefore it cannot be used to indicate AP ammo

This is basic Steel Panthers stuff. It's been done that way since SP1 was developed

Read MOBHack Help

Quote:
Class 11 air weapons if auto cannon or MG will use the HE ammo number for number of engagement opportunities, and the AP byte is then used to represent the number of cannons/MGs for this type of class 11 weapon. Helicopters use normal on-map MG or cannon classes, not class 11. You may therefore need a copy of say a 12.7 gatling - one off map for fixed wing planes and one on map, with normal AP ammo and possibly sabot for your helicopters to use.

Mi-24P it Weapon # 153 -- GH-30K

This weapon all over again uses HE ammo, and then AP at shooting on armour target!

Others gun at helicopters (Cobra, Ka-52) normally operate.

Helcopters are different from aircraft. They're flying vehicles and use AP ammo normally.

If you look ar aircraft only (class 11) weapons you'll see most have a higher kill value then ground weapons of the exact same type. This I assume simulates AP ammo since that slot s used for number of weapons for aircraft.

If you look at that weapons stats

HE & AP have a Pen of 6 with range 4Km
APCR has a PEN of 8 with range 2Km

This means the APCR is only more effective than the HE at ranges below about 1.5Km maybe a bit less.

I am guessing you are firing at over 30 hexes when the HE has more chance of a kill which is why its using it.
If you want to use your AP ammo try firing at something around the 1KM mark but if its only standard AP not APCR it will still use the HE first as its better.
The HE Pen may well be an entry error being as I think its an autocannon so may need changing to 1 or 2.

Just done yourself out of some vehicle killing ammo

In test battle helicopter Mi-24P shot on distance of 50 meters in APC and tank.

This failure only at Mi-24P with gun GH-30K.
Other helicopters normally spend AP (armour target) and HE ammo (infantry and etc.).

Just guessing but the reason it is the only helo that behaves that way is because the penetration value for the HE is so high.
HE does not lose penetration over distance
This means the HE ammo is better at killing hard targets than the dedicated AP ammo
Try changing the HE ammo Pen to 2 & I bet it uses the AP ammo, thats still high most A/C have a HE kill of 1 I think.
As I said numbers may have got a bit muddled as what I think from a quick look represents the plane mounted version has a Pen of 6.
As planes use HE Pen this may have been carried over to the helo weapon by mistake, there were a lot of recent changes.
Pure guess here but I would say HE Pen of 1 possibly 2 & AP of 8 for the helo version.
This is based on the fact the helo version has a much longer barrel.
On this point think the Accuracy ratings might need looking at unless planes recieve a modifier. Currently 22 plane 20 helo but helo weapons barrel is 1/3rd longer. Muzzle velocitys 880 vs 960 but plane has a higher rate of fire.
All just a quick look so could be talking out of my xxxx
Just loaded MBT quicly later model russian helos use a slightly longer weapon with a lower rate of fire. This is represented by kill being smaller but Pens are HE1 SABOT 8.
Accuracy was 23 I think, sorry no weapon ID edit time running out

Mi-24P (with gun GH-30) shoots in armor unit HE ammo.
AP ammo it uses, only when it will spend all HE ammo, not earlier!

Problem in that that if it is necessary to destroy armor unit all over again it is necessary to spend HE ammo.

Other helicopters correctly apply the ammunition (HE against infantry, AP against armour unit).

Despite the fact that in weapon properties we can see equal penetration for HE and AP - 6 points, in fact shooting to armor with HE rounds by distance even 50 meters never reached 4 points. May be it caused by some collisions in program logic of penetration calculations.
