My spells would have taken care of the normal poisonousness of mushrooms (the purification ones)...

Hmmm...
1) Disease resistance != poison resistance.
2) Purification -> pure, poison mushroom
Of course, the mushroom wasn't poisoned, itself... it was just poisonous to others. One creature's poison may be another creature's life-sustaining chemical.
And it dosen't seem right for purification spells to harm things.
