				 Suns - collapse?
Don't remember the exact wording b/c I am at work, but Last night I clicked on a star in one of my systems and it said something to the tune of "unstable star could collapse at any time"
What happens to the planets if the star collapses?

What if there are multiple stars in the system? (naturally or I produce one)

Any other input on this would be greatly appreciated.

				 Re: Suns - collapse?
This is a very rare event, and I've never had it happen to one of my systems. I've heard you will get 2 years (20 turns) warning to evacuate the system. (Just don't miss that one turn on PBW! You don't continuously get Messages on each subsequent turn!)

I believe the star explodes and becomes a nebula, destroying all the planets in the system.

				 Re: Suns - collapse?
You get 3 years; I made a scenario out of just such an event.
After that time, you will be left with no stars in the system (if one star of a binary goes, it takes the other with it), and all planets will be reduced to asteroid fields.

I believe it was said that stars with the unstable description/ability do not have an appreciably greater chance to go nova than otherwise normal stars.

In any case, if you build a ringworld or sphereworld, the star will be stabilized and can not go nova.

The Star - Unstable ability doesn't actually do anything. Just like the size, color, luminosity, etc. of the star; all (unfortunately) meaningless. |

It's not just the map generator, it's anything running on windows if you ask me! Ahh i've just finished that vital chapter to my story/finished a 5 page essay. What? is that an illegal Operation *Beeeeeeeeeeep**beep**beeeping**beep*

Well i remember starting a new game and 3 turns in my one and only homeworld was diagnosed with a core instability and was due to detonate in 2 or 3 years lol. Thats perverse!

So the instable core doesn't do anything? *BEEP* I just built a sphereworld to protect my system from going nova!!! *Sighs* i think this a large conspiracy somewhere down the line

				 Re: Suns - collapse?
I was trying to make a scenario a while back where all the races started with a fully loaded sphereworld. After about 280 turns of F12 clickfest I was done. I turned the AIs back on, saved the game, and added the super keen scenario dialogues.
Sitting down to process my first turn I was shocked to find that my empire had collapsed! Turns out that during the clickfest my sphereworld was diagnosed with a core instability, one that took effect on my first turn.

All that work for nothing. I think I laughed and cried at the same time.

You can add SWs in the Map Editor and use them as HW locations. As long as the planet type and atmosphere for the SW is the same as the race that starts there, the HW will be a SW (or a RW if you would want to use those). |
