Well, FWIW, Kenzer & Co (a game company which caters to an entirely different crowd, so I'm not hyping the enemy here) holds their annual "Garycon" at Origins in Ohio (typically 4th of July weekend, earlier this year.)

Based on what I saw at Origins, that would be the ideal situation for Shrapnel to hold "Shrapnelcon." For those who don't know, Origins is the official convention of GAMA, the Game Manufacturers Association and home of the Origins Awards. This year's Origins attendance was somewhere around 13,000-14,000. There was one area of the convention dedicated exclusively to wargaming, and it looked like Lock 'n' Load was getting some hard looks. It also looked like SEIV was gaining some interest.

Anyway, I like the idea of Shrapnelcon, but I think it would be most effective if it took place concurrently with another large event Shrapnel is going to be at anyway.

Im in for California. I'd prefer the bay area, but would not mind other places in the state. I would even hop a flight to vegas if the convention was there. I dont know if i would fly for more than a couple hours to get to the con, though.

Im sure Shrapnel has demographics from their sales info to know where the highest concentration of players are, but perhaps we should try to get a rough count of how many board members are in what areas, and how far they are willing to travel.

Karibu has a good plan though. Ive always wanted to see Finland, maybe we can all get a package travel deal with a group rate. I hear Suko Kolkka is still alive, though I am only familiar with a single word of Finnish, and dont know what I'd say to the man if I spoke more...

Ohio might not be a bad plan, either. If i remember, thats the home of the legendary Geoschmo and PBW, for whom we should all buy a beer.

I can pretty much guarantee that California is out, but who knows.

Actually we do have demographics from our sales, hmm time to look those up.
