Looking for infomation about areas around Fredericksburg

When you're at Harpers Ferry, be sure to cross the river from the town and climb to the top of the lookout overviewing the area. It's a bear of a climb, but the view is worth it.

Are you planning to visit the Manassas Battlefield in your journeys (or Bull Run as it is properly called

)?

the more i look at it i think a central base around Fredericksburg is key.

Yeah, lots of Civil War battlefields around there (Spotsylvania, Wilderness, Fredricksburg) and about 90 minutes south of Fredricksburg is Petersburg battlefield.

any one recommend good camping ground around there ( p.s. I like a hot tub

) When I was in gettsyburg area i stayed at the Little Drummer Boy Camp. THey had a stocked pond , hot tub and heated pool. Loved it after hiking all day.

WOuld get up at 6 am and fish for 1 hour and read about where I was going to hike for the day. Then go and come back around 6 pm and hit the tub and then either make dinner or go out to a brew pub.

Then come back make a fire and relax.

P.S. what is the weather like around OCt 11 to 20 th ??

You'd have to detour in a little closer to The Center of Gravity for World Evil (D.C.), but there is a good smoke shop in Leesburg, VA that I know of. I also have a friend who's a microbrewer who knows the local brew scene here like the back of his hand.

EDIT - the weather in VA during October is grand. The 4H season (Hazy Hot Humid Hell) is past, and the leaves are usually changing at that time (advice - avoid Shenandoah Valley Nat. Park during the weekends at that time. The views of the trees changing are rightly spectacular - but the Skyland Drive is packed to the rafters).

As I continue to look perhaps near staunton or charlottesville or lynchburg..

Also... I would like to read that info on the brews and brew pubs.... ask your friend

Lets hope the pools are still open that time of year...

I'm in Charlottesville once in a blue moon (a friend of mine is doing doctoral studies at UVA), and the only tobacconist I have come across there was a complete shambles. The humidor made my bedroom look like an Intel 'clean room'.

I'll ask Ralph (the microbrewer) about brewpubs in the cities you listed.
