Same error for me, and I am also using a Geforce (2 MX actually) with Windows XP and DirectX 9.0 Perhaps there is a problem with Geforce graphic cards? (I don't expect my computer to be actually able to run Star Fury though, but who knowns?

That is to say, yet another Geforce user which is having trouble. Is there anyone with a Geforce able to play the demo? If so, with what drivers? Or perhaps it is only a chance occurrence.

I can. Geforce 4 Ti 4200, 128MB. 45.23 drivers, I think.

Geforce here, no problem with the Last three driver releases.

So it was merely a chance occurrence, as Geforce are /were the most used graphic cards. Even with the latest drivers, it is not working for me. But perhaps it is because my computer itself is too slow.

(700 mhz, not fast nowadays, with Windows XP and common components)

While upgrading to windows 98 is always an option to improve performance

, your system sounds fast enough, and you'll have enough ram.
