OT: Anyone know a cheap place to buy Windows 98?

ahhhhh....... I got no DOS.....I though one set of my floppies said Dos 5, but turns out they are just diagnostic discs

Ah well. ****it. No Dos means no win3.11, no win3.11 means no win 95 upgrade, so that portion of the plan is borked. and I may as well forget installing Deian until I have a BB connection. I'll just make the XP partition and a second XP partition for data.....

You might want to set the partitions up now, so you don't have to lose all data later when you get Debian... At the very least, format them with NTFS and have several smaller data partitions that you don't use unless necessary...

AHHHHH ****..... the second I finished installing XP I found a bunch of dos floppies in my closet..... ehh.... should I glass the drive and start over with the original plan or try to install the Dos/win3.11/95 now?

Why are you trying to get win95 running on a new computer? Both winXP and Linux/Wine can emulate win95 just fine. I second what aiken said about buying a Linux CD.

There are a lot of old DOS games that work very poorly or not at all under XP or Linux with Wine (much more so with XP).

HD has been glassed, I got as far as installing the windows 3.11, but my 95 floppies are corrupted

. This will do just fine for now however. all this means is now I have motivation to get windows 98 Upgrade ;p.

EDIT: and no more ****ing floppies, CDROM! EBAY HO!

Don't get an upgrade. Find a full copy. It is not really a good idea to do upgrades like that... A full copy of 98 SE will be dirt cheap anyways.

It works really well and is FREE. AND no need to special format your HD to have multiple boot OS's.

Yes, but you have to have a really good PC to use an emulator very well... Emulators take up a huge amount of memory and CPU power.

You're too pessimistic, Hugh. Where are tons of images of dos bootable floppies in the net. Search for it.
And Deb is definetely Right System. You don't need BB to install Deb (this is a "feature" of source-based distros, like Sorcerer or Gentoo, while Deb is mostly binary distro). Order it on DVD. Cost: price of DVD disk + shipping.
