				 AMD vs Intel
I just read some interesting things about crytek, MS XP, and AMD 64bit processors. LINK
So now my question is, what would you go with, an AMD 64, or a P4?

				 Re: AMD vs Intel
Last time I actually brought a processor AMD were loads cheaper for equivalent performance. Assuming that hasn't changed and assuming there's a massive premium for AMD 64 (When isn't there a premium for a new technology?) I'd go standard 32bit AMD.
Of course if it's not loads more expensive I'd go AMD 64.

Unless you are really really really PC savy, XP64 is not for you. I run both AMD and Intel systems, and have gotten good service from both. With that said, Intel still has the edge because of their chipsets. You can't go wrong with a P4 in an Intel board.

				 Re: AMD vs Intel
A 64-bit processor is kind of overkill if you're not doing lots of 64-bit calculations or don't need tons of memory (real or virtual). Best value would be AMD processors in the "middle range", like 3000+ to 3400+. I have a P4, and those are nice too, especially with an Intel board... but it's more expensive.

				 Re: AMD vs Intel
I actually just built my new system a couple of months ago. Went Athlon 3200+ (Winchester) on an MSI K8N Neo2 board with 1 gb of PDP Dual-channel PC3200 memory. SE sure runs a lot faster than on my old Athlon 650 T-bird. |

I'm currently playing a PBW turn on my P2-166 lappy.
Why do you need anything more?

				 Re: AMD vs Intel
I am a big convert to AMD. It started when I built my first Athlon 1500+ machine. Before that I was Intel only. But intel was 2 to 3 times as expensive. Now I have a rock'n machine that didn't cost that much to build. AMD is just too cost effective to pass up.
 Here are my specs:
 Antec Super LANBOY Case
 Antec 480W Power Supply TRUE480
 MSI "K8T NEO2-F" VIA K8T800 Pro
EGA GeForce FX 6800 DDR 128MB
 AMD Athlon™64 3200+ 2.0GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor
 1 GB RAM (2 X 512MB 3200 DDR 400) Corsair
 Seagate 120GB 8mb cache 7200 HD
 Western Digital 25GB
 Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
 DVD ROM 8x
 DVD+R/RW and -R/RW Drive 4X Dual Format

 | Ship/construction queue list with >500 items takes about a minute to load on my p2-350. Annoying. |
