Default Re: Best defense against pyschic converter?

I'm a very dedicated user of the subverter and I really like the bugger! It fires only once and in strategic combat the AI would fire as soon as it gets within range, so the best defense is probably giving your ships as much defensive bonus as possible to make sure your opponent's first shot misses. Stealth armour + scattering armour + ECM III + legendary ship + legendary fleet can be quite devastating to a psychic player who relies too heavily on subverters. Repulser beams might help but max range strategy probably won't. The AI never runs hard enough unless you tell it to "don't get hurt".

I've tried to use both subverters and boarding parties in my fleets, but I never managed to get the boarding parties working properly in strategic combat. Perhaps that's why we haven't seen any AI or human players who use both.

I'm telling you man, the best defense against a subverter is having no ships in space!

if you play organic, you have one of the best fighter weapons in the game. you also have one of the best missile weapons in the game, so you can load up your ships with seeking parasites and bring a couple carriers allong to engagements. between the two, you should overload his PD and if you keep your ships at max range, you should minimize your own losses.

of course, enveloping acid globules are nice too, if you can get them on large mounts and you are good at hitting things. maybe lock your ships into formation so that when he does close with you, your ships with the seekers will be backed up by the direct fire weapons.

and if you load up on orgainc armor instead of shields, you can balance out your organic and mineral costs, and produce ships alot faster than if they were lopsided.

Ahhh another Organic user.

Organics is the best defence against anything except maybe those crystal chards.

I use missles against pyschic ships and the acid globes range 8 cannot be beat. Refire at 2

Puke, I know you said have the best ftr weapon, but you didn't say which one.. Also with temporal the (can't remember name but looks like a white pumpkin) which does 4x damage to armor & shields also hits missles, in organic for ftrs is there any of those type weapons that hits ships and missles when loaded on ftr?? With organic armor is it better to use all armor or mix with shields, I know of all shield and all armor ships, but like I said I never took organic before and trying to find how the weapons works in a human vs human war is time consuming... any help appreciated

well, not THE best fighter weapon, but the small electric discharge is about on par with the small TK projector for psychics. of course, there are better weapons if you think you will only get one shot off, or if you are going after a planet. there are no fighter weapons that hit seekers, in the standard game anyway, but many (both mentioned above) hit fighters.

the 4x to shields is nice, unless you are fighting an organic race with organics, i would not use shields and fill up on organic armor until your organic cost is equal to your mineral cost. that way you can pump ships out twice as fast. of course, using only organic weapons helps that too, by the time you are worring about starbases and dreadnaughts, you might be spending more organics than minerals, in which case it would not hurt to drop in a few shield generators.

if you try the armor only concept tho, be wary of crystal races, they will DO YOU IN. I have been able to defeat them by staying at max seeker range, but its dangerous without shields.
