Has Anyone Ever Lost to the AI Before?
ok, I've read all the guides, strategies, and what not... enough material that it took me 2 weeks to read it all.
In my first game ever of SEIV, I'm playing against 20 AI, max difficulty, low bonus to AI. unmodded 1.91 except 255 systems and 20000 units.

At turn 20 I've colonized 1/8 of the galaxy. I'm researching warp closers first and demanding gifts from my weaker trade allies to assimilate their tech. I've also demanded their planets in systems I've claimed so I can fully own the systems and not go to war with them. I also demand each and every ship I see entering my territory as a gift, (after of course the AI offers trade treaty). I've got rock and gas techs, and O2, H, and CO2 breathers as a result.

At turn 30, my tech also includes the combined total of all tech from known aliens (man those weaklings are guillable).

At turn 46 I'm 365k and in first place. Second place AI is 111k. I've also created my first planet out of a tiny asteroid field. Also my monolith IIIs have started kicking in.

Before I hit MEE, I expect to close all my warp points, get max tech, maximize my internal development, and then reopen a warp point to attack the galaxy with a vengence, one wormhole at a time. For honor's sake, I'll let the AI declare war on me first and fire the first shot. If I hit MEE before my warp closers finish building in 10 turns, I've got enough double Warhead III mines at every warp point to send the AI retreating to their research centers to learn minesweeping V.

After I eat the AI alive in this game, I fully expect to take on modded AIs for a greater game experience. I just wonder, has anyone ever lost to the AI before?

I can't wait to get my life settled enough to start playing humans... and so start playing with some evil human vs human strategies.

Yep, I've lost to the AI before, several times. Now to qualify that, I can't remember losing to the stock AI's before. TDM AI's are a totally different story. Much more difficult. Also, since I always play with a high AI bonus, that makes it a LOT more difficult too.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Lost to the AI Before?
I remember that PvK lost to the AI once during beta testing. He was started in the same system with the EEE and they were quite a problem. Eventually he told us that they'd finished him off. When the game is very early (and therefore simple) the AI is apparently pretty nasty. |

Yes, I actually lost to the stock AI twice, once in PBEM where they had a high bonus, and another time when the AI started very near my homeworld and attacked right away. If they start out close to you and they have a bonus, they can be overpowering. If you have time to get ahead of them on colonization in the unmodded game, that can give you more production and research than their bonus can compensate for.

I lost to the AI in my mod once. I tried to threaten one of them and it sort of backfired..only time I've EVER seen the AI respond to the "tone" setting of messages.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Lost to the AI Before?
Well I've oddly enough never been able to finish a long game of SEIV because things kept getting in the way like comp crashes or things getting fowled up in the data files.
I did lose to the AI once when my main star went Nova early in game and all I had was a few scattered colonies and warships, and the two AI powers on either side of me invaded and slaughtered my defence fleets and colonies, But it took them three years and I made them pay in blood and steel for every inch of space! But in the end even my superior ship sizes (I had battleships they had battlecruisers) was not enough and even with a two to one kill rate and me slaughtering entire fleets they still overwhelmed me.

The Cue Cappa did the main damage because they actually stole two of my battleships with their psychic abilities and defeated one of two western fleets, my other western fleet had three battleships and I think a mix of 10 cruisers, BCs and destroyers. And against a Cue fleet reinforced by my own battleships it was the end of them a year later.

The Xiati only really served to whittle away my defenses in the east with several warp point battles that eventually led to the destruction of my eastern frontier fleets.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Lost to the AI Before?
Ah yes, I remember fighting the Cue Cappa long ago when I still played single player. It was quite fun, going into battle outnumbered 5 to 1 and coming out with 6 times as many ships as I started with. |
