Not a bad start. Looks like we may have "Horatio Hornblower in space" here. All we need is the junior officer toasting the king at each formal meal.

Perhaps it was deliberate, but I noticed a lack of "nautical" terminology in the story, i.e. "floor" instead of "deck", "wall" instead of "bulkhead", "cafeteria" instead of "galley". In some places the station is referred to as a "ship"; in others it's called a "station".
