Re: Dien Bien Phu, Hell in a very small place...
You seem to know a lot about this, so no risk you made any error in your possible campain
Bigeard had not 12.000 Waffen-SS but there where lot of them in the legion. I remeber reading a book from a french partisan: During the war he was deported. After the war he entered the legion as a team leader: his team was 50% german, all former waffen-SS !

There are always errors;-) (I have a Master's Degree in history, so I know that I know but a fraction of what there is to know *g*), but I think I could get close to accuracy.
Problem is being a professional makes you too throughough (sp?);-) takes too much time.

Re: Dien Bien Phu, Hell in a very small place...
If you want to try your hand at campaign building one good way to start would be to pick something like a small battle that lasted three of four days ( or had three or four distinct phases )that could be represented by smaller forces on 3 or 4 smaller maps. Too many people try to start out recreating Kursk. The game could use a campaign that could be played out in 3 or four battles that are <20 turns in length that don't have 500 units per side and something in Indochina or Algeria would be perfect.

That's not what he wrote or implied ......what he wrote was...."Bigeard was later to say that had he had 12.000 Waffen SS troops there instead of the motley garrision they had, he would have held it. "
so he wished he had that many and if he had he would have held.

Re: Dien Bien Phu, Hell in a very small place...
I understood it the same way you did It was only a way (bad one?) to underline the fact that even if he of course hadn't 12000 SS he had some of them... Which is a bit ironical because he probably fought against them during WW2!
Thank you for the explanation, because sometimes (no this one but...) people are getting angry just because of difficulties with the english language.
