yeah, now that you know what they all mean, you can be all effete by refusing to endorse internet pop-culture and typing things out the long way.
also, you can use all those instant emoteicons or Graemlins, or what ever the hell you want to call those little smileyfaced things. not to mention bold and italics and other html-ish things.

TS, good to know this forum is not all north americans - us europeans, south americans and antipodeans need to stick together
Rochdale? no disrespect to your dad intended but save your cash and go to the Dominican Republic ro the Maldives instead - Rochdale is not really worth the cash whatever the exchange rate - you have my sympathies as my dad is from London and when I first went to see the old place - oh dear oh dear oh dear
got to ask - where does Tesco Samoa come from ie the name rather than the man

Re: OT - Forum Decorum
Nick name.
From my B.C. days ( Bare Chest without shame )
I grew up listening to a band called the Meatmen and the lead singer's name was Tesco Vee.
I always liked the name so when people asked what my nick name was Tesco was given.
Later on (around 1991 ) University days.... Ottawa Ontario I lived in a house where everyone went by their nick name so I decided to add a Last name to the nick name and I decided on the Country of Samoa. Since their only major problem at the time was that they had too many seagulls and removing the seagull crap was a national crisis. It was building up quicker than it was removed. Made sence at the time.
And I always used the id for bbs logins and email addresses etc.... So I keep the nick name going.
And I am located in North America right now, so I get to stick with everyone ( if they want )
By the way. Real name is Simon Baxendale and yes I am related to the actress.
It was a pleasure to dig into the past.
And you ???

Re: OT - Forum Decorum
Right, that explains a lot - I did wonder because 'Tesco' is Britian's leading supermarket chain (kind of like Wal-Mart but much better class) and I thought you might have some connection, if onl to their fruit and vegetable department.
'Samoa' - I wasn't aware of their guano problem - the only Samoans I have met are rugby players and they are exceptionally big chaps - I wouldn't dream of going up to one and asking them about their seagull crap problem!
I use Growltigga for log-ins - it is actually the name of one of my cats (sad I know) but comes from my old rock band days where my nick name was "GT" - this stood for Gin & Tonic which I used to drink by the bucket - the wifes' polite nickname for me is "Tigger" due to my boundless energy and 'Growltigger' was followed through a bizarre but very English thought pattern
Helen Baxendale - grrrr!!! I have met her you know - she stars in a series over here called Cold Feet which is set in Manchester and in fact used the board room at my office for some of the shots - she is a very attractive girl in the flesh
My real name is Rob, not related to anyone famous (save William Golding 'Lord of the Flies') as far as I know
Born in London, grew up in Canterbury, Kent (southern England), worked in London and then Germany, Greece, Switzerland, South Africa and New York and now work in Manchester where I moved after I got married. Cant stand the city and live out in the Cheshire countryside.
You are right, it is good fun to delve into the past
Take care
