				 Missles vs. Anti-Matter Torps
I remember seeing somewhere that AM Torps and Quantum Torps rule over Missles. Looking at the charts I just cannot see why. Missles clearly do more damage and have a further range, whereas Torps just behave like beam weapons. Can anyone clarify which one is better, and why? On that note the Mental Singularity Generator, and Allegience Subverters really kick ***. I almost feel like I am cheating. |

				 Re: Missles vs. Anti-Matter Torps
One word answer...Point Defense Cannons. Research them fast enough and missiles are pretty much useless where Torps are direct fire and unlike normal beam weapons don't loose damage with range, throw in a Talisman and you rock the enemy . Best weapons (IMO) are the phased poleron beam (early before phased shields) and the AntiProton beam (mid to late game, good range and damage) followed by the Enveloping Acid Glob (high damage and very nice range). Base se4 the weapons are a little out of balance (IMO of course), but with a good modd this is 'fixed', some of the best (Devnull/P&N) have tonnes of good weapons and counters/defenses against those weapons.

				 Re: Missles vs. Anti-Matter Torps
As a note:Mental Singularity Generators are the weakest normal damage weapon in the game, once you've reached max tech.

Only WMGs come close, with the same damage rating, but an additional 10% bonus accuracy.
Lightning rays become weaker at max range, but are tied for 2nd best at minimum range.

The Allegiance Subverter really is an abusive weapon, IMO. I've been thinking about modding it into a "Destroy anything with mental activity on a ship" weapon instead.

				 Re: Missles vs. Anti-Matter Torps
My 2 cents is torps are a great weapon for fighters...my anti-matter equipped fighters (IF they survive point defenses) gennerally rip even dreadnaughts to pieces...not usually a kill but damage them enough to send them out of a fight useless....

"Missles clearly do more damage and have a further range, whereas Torps just behave like beam weapons."
Missles also fire less often. For every 2 shots (300 damage) a missle fires, a torp will fire 3 (300 damage). That evens out the damage difference. The range can be important, but torps aren't effected by point defense.

Also Beam weapons and Torps CAN and DO miss a missle will not, but you can run out of range!

I meant 10% more, relative to the MSG.
