Any time you install any kind of mod that includes graphics or pictures or anything other than an OOB it's best to create a whole new installation of the game and rename it so you don't get things mixed up

What I would suggest now is delete the entire game and re-install everything . Both the Chinese and Japanese OOBs have had a lot of work done to them for V4 but I have NO IDEA right now what you might be looking at (and , as you have said, you're not sure what you installed previously either ) but all V4 OOB's have an info line that you can view with MOBHack or in the game when running the Encyclopaedia that has the date set to April/2008.

Thanks! After all that, I finally clicked the "restore default OOB" again and this time it appears that everything is back to the way it should be (i.e. no more "future" weapons and the Japanese and Chinese OOBs appear to have the updates I was looking for

Not sure what happened but I'm happy
