Are you sure it's an AI-controlled empire? I have no explanation that matches your description except that a human player might abandon planets near your ships for fear that you might capture them.
Only other thing would be the amazing coincidence that they died from the plague...

If you leave the blockade in place for a long time it will cause rioting. It's possible that rioting results in negative population growth like a very bad environment. I've never looked very closely at what happens over time to a rioting planet. |

Once a blockade is established, the ships in orbit will not start combat again unless you give them the Attack order. Combat only starts if another ship (or fighter or drone) enters the sector. I think combat will also start if the planet launches fighters, drones, or satellites, but AFAIK there's no way to get a weapon platform to start combat against the blockaders.

				 Re: HELP: blockading AI
In a v1.49 PBW game I had a ship blockading another player's home planet. Every game turn, there would be one combat report for this planet where my ship just sat there outside of WP-range for 30 turns. This happened every turn without fail for as long as my ship was there (and I was not giving my ship any attack orders). This was of course a simultaneous game so maybe that works different than turn-based. quote:Originally posted by capnq:
