There is also an obvious difference between discussion threads like this one and more dedicated "project" threads like mp games or mods.

In the first case it is more like a conversation where straying from the subject should be accepted and expected, in the later case you should stick to what is useful for the project.

I also think it make a difference if the OP declares that he would like the thread to stay on topic.

And the combination of smileys, sarcasm and nationalist symbols is obviously overpowered and should be banned. Of nerfed in CBM (community balance mod)
