Default New entrenchment graphics mod

Here is a mini-mod that replace the original sandbag entrenchment graphics with new ones showing dug-in positions instead. Please see attached pictures for screenshot examples. There are four different types which appear randomly during assault/defend missions. The single file included in the zip goes into the Graphics folder which is found in the Game Data folder.

Please make sure to backup your original Icon0014 file incase you don`t like this new mod or want to revert back to the original entrenchment graphics.

Testing has not yet shown any problems with this mod and it backdates well to scenarios already in the game.

Looks cool, will try that later, btw, you could keep a sandbag icon, so we have some varied entrenchments

Looks weird in rough, impassable, woods, and orchard, anyone had that problem?

Fine in rough impassable but woods orchard is a problem as the pit base is not transparent so obliterates the trees.

Icamp, no more sandbagcircles, i haven`t played assault missions in years because of those as i always thought the circles looked...well....somewhat "less" and ruined the visuals.

The reason for the entrenchements not being transparent in the middle is that i imagined them as showing wider positions dug into the ground for larger equipment like artillery and vehicles. The bottom of these positions would thus not have trees or grass visible.

However, choice is good or so they say, so i`ve included another zip with the same icon file but in this the entrenchments are transparent in the middle so that the original terrain show through. This way the players can chose which type to use themself.

I agree with your thought trouble is its a 50m hex so thats a big hole

I changed the sandbags to something like this for sp2ww2 back in 1998 and changed back to the sandbags a couple of releases later for much the same reasons mentioned here. Others have attempted this as well. I went back to the sandbags becasue, in the end, they were easier on the eyes and worked better in more cases on the majority of terrain types

But it never hurts for others to take a stab at this

The new Transparent ones look very good, they actually look like real dug in positions, btw, IIRC you have 4 diferent icons for entrenchments in the file, so you can have mixed Foxholes, Sandbags, Sandbag plus foxhole etc.

Icamp, here is a slight update, i`ve altered one of the entrenchments so that it`s reinforced with sandbags all around (nr.1 on picture). The three other are as before, although nr.2 is partially stacked with sandbags. The sandbags are not highly visible though, they are small and not stacked like a row of tincans at Wallmart.

Imp, yes a 50m hole is way too big, but then so is a 30m long Sherman tank. But if they were made to scale, we would hardly see any of them at all. I guess we have to accept that much on the map is abstractions one way or the other. Anyway, the entrenchments are for vehicles and guns so will have to be made to fit most of these inside, thus somewhat oversized.
