When I move the unit to load into same hex as unit to be loaded onto (the Bradleys), all I have to do is hit L. I do not have to click on the Bradley

Think you will find thats you again you did select the Bradleys, if you do not select the other unit game sits waiting for you to select it or cancel.
Try it the tutorial works just the same as any battle/scenerio it just happens to mention its good as a tutorial.
The only exception is using the load all button in deploy phase or the editor.
