Gods have always been a law unto themselves, rarely feeling bound by the rules they impose on mortals. That doesn't mean that those who feel inclined to roleplaying can't play a benevolent diety, concerned with the well-being of his followers.

Even so, some hardships must be imposed for the greater good. In the real world it was common, the current debacle notwithstanding, to raise taxes to pay for wars.
