				 OT: A True Loss
Man talk about a bad week in Trek history. First my site is killed, then I read this about www.section31.com Here is the story. http://www.section31.com/stories/aug...082802_a.shtml
This is another perfect reason why we need to support PBW and its efforts to stay alive. If Section 31 can go under because of lack of support, then PBW could to just as easily.Quote:

		| Section31.com's current dedicated server contract is due to end within a matter of weeks, or possibly less. Liquid Web, our hosting service, has yet to respond to my inquiry regarding the state of this domain's contract so a definite date is not known for certain at the time of this story. Due to the lack of sufficient revenue through donations and advertising I am not going to re-new services with Liquid Web or seek out new hosting options for this website. The advertising you have seen, along with requests to support the domain by donating through Paypal or through special offers from companies, was all meant to raise enough money to keep the site going. Unfortunately we did not receive the support needed. This decision is not being made solely based on a financial basis. |
Additionally, I found out Last night that the Computer store where I buy all my parts is closing its doors after eleven years. My P2 400 bought the farm today with two Popping sounds and a puff of blue smoke. That leaves me with just my AMD 1400, and it is less than reliable.

This has been a very bad week starting with Last Thursday. It could have been worse, but God does have a heart. (No offense intended.)

If you can, help support PBW, I'd hate to see them go down.

Pay-day looms near, and I will transfer a bit of wealth to the PBW efforts.

 Hey Atrocities,
I've been reading about your string of bad luck (I'm not so sure I'd call it all luck, however). I can maybe help out. I do have a significant number of spare parts - power supplies, mthrbds, etc. and I'm pretty sure I have a motherbd that'll hold that P2 if you need one. I'd be glad to send something your way if you need it.

PM me if you need something.

Indeed, there is no any piece of bad luck in Atrocities' ordeal. He should know better before touching anything ST related. Anyway, if any other efforts to resurect his site fail, I have secured some space in one russian provider. Connection speed might be a problem but they do not give a damn about any ST-nazis complaints for sure.

Now there is an idea. Use a "corrupt" Russian(sorry for any offense to Russian members of the community) provider. They don't give a fig about USA trekkie concerns. And maybe if they really proactive they will help you with "dispute resolution" Joe Stalin Style .

				 Re: OT: A True Loss
     You guys crack me up.
rdouglass, thanks for the offer, but I too have tons of spare parts. I was going to take the parts that are still good and build a new P4 system. I loved my P2, and still have no clue as to way it crashed and burned. I think perhaps the Power supply or the Chip toasted.

It made a loud POP while booting, continued to boot, then Popped again, everything went down, and then the smoke came out. Pulled the panel, and could not find the source of the smoke.

Then today while starting up this PC, Scandisk (Win2k) says that my new secondary drive (HD) has errors and has to be repaired. That was a surprise. (I had killed a bunch of ad ware programs before shutting it down Last night.)

That or the damned HD is about to fricking fail again. Will be the second HD from Western Digital to fail in 6 months. They will replace it of course, but with what? The used, burned out one I had to give them in order to get this used burned out one? Hummmm

Oh by the way, my shiney new Sony Digital DVCam Corder that Sears sold to me as new... Well, why does the memory card have pictures of people sitting around a lodge up at Mt Hood? The damn thing is used! Any suggestions on how to approach this?

No offence is taken because they are not corrupt - they got no two kopieks for hosting sites like this. The major difference is that most russian sites are not triger happy about any kneejerk reaction of outlander jerks. They will certainly react very severely to any complaints from legal copyright owner (paramaount pictures in this case) but they are not legally responcible to moral distress of every other loser on the net !Quote:

Atrocities... the pics could be just sample pics, that are distributed to waste space (or maybe some vindictive engineer decided to share pics or something)WHo knows

				 Re: OT: A True Loss
nah, it was probably a return. if the pictures are of a local vacation area, and not of modles in crappy "gap" clothes drinking cheap anhiser busch beer, then i doubt they are promo-photos.
someone probably bought the camera for their vacation and took advantage of the return policy. sort of like a 'rental.'

if the camera is damaged, ask for a refund. otherwise, its usually policy for stores to restock returned items as new, if there is nothing wrong with them. if you really dont like it, im sure the store would exchange it for a new one in pLastic-wrap, if you felt like bringing it to their attention, talking to a manager, and filling out a form 27B-6 in triplicate.
