Default Unit cap

What's the maximum of units allowed/moddable in the game?
I think its 5000 per player, right?
The question is, is that the maximum of units deployed in space or the maximum that you can have in storage in your planets and ships?

The max units is a setting at the begining of the game, but that refers to units in space. The units you can have in cargo is only limited by cargo capacity.

I'm not sure you get a message about maxed out units. I think they just don't launch when you try to launch them.

The limit for units in space is settable at game setup. Default is 2000 if I recall correctly, but can be set as high as 20,000 and I think as low as 100. The default itself can even be changed in settings.txt.

You do get a message. It says something about not being able to launch because the maximum limit has been reached. I haven't hit it in while, but used to all the time with pre-gold SE4 before they fixed the bug where you couldn't self-destruct mines.

As the others pointed out there is no limit on number of units in storage other then the total amount all you planets, ships and bases can carry.

Perfect example of this.

I'm currently playing a single player game in which one of the ai has over 40k units. Most of them are troops on planets(I've captured quite a few planets with 50+ troops).

When you reach either the maximum number of ships or units, the message is also accompanied by a picture with a red 'target' circle with a picture of a generic ship or unit.

Thanks.
Then I don't have to worry, since most of my units are troops.
Some of the AIs have like 30k units....

Don't think so, unless you want to bribe Malfador to implement it.
