Default Questions

The manual lists Flaming Arrows as F3/Ench4. I have researched Ench4, and given a F2 mage some F gems, but Flaming Arrows does not show up in his spell list. Am I missing something or has the spell changed requirements under CBM 1.6? If it has changed is there an easy way to check modified spell requirements?

The manual lists Blade Wind as E3/Evo4. I have researched Evo4, and given a E2 mage some E gems. Blade Wind shows up on his spell list, but in grey not white. Does this mean that he can cast the spell with the use of one E gem?

I'm playing PM on my desktop, but about to do some traveling. I was going to play on my laptop while away, but someone told me that if you start submitting turns from a different computer it is problematic. Is this true, and if so is there a way around it?

Thanks

Default Re: Questions

1) In game: F5 -> Left click on "Enchantment" -> "F" key

2) Grey color means your mage doesn't have the requirements to cast the spell. In this case he is E2, while spell requires E3. But if mage is 1 level below required and spell costs no more then 1 gem - extra equipped gem allows you to cast spell. So short answer is yes - he will cast Blade Wind if is equiped with gem(s).

3) Not only different computers do not affect your turn - you can submit it from different e-mails.

Flaming Arrows has been moved up to F4 and Ench 5 in CBM.

I think there's a mistake here; the right answer is "mage 1 level below the required spell level and the spell cost in gems +1 is less than or equal to mage level in that path". So you can cast level 4 spells that costs 2 gems with level 3 mage ("Living X" spells are an example).

Flaming Arrows is F4 even in vanilla dominions. The manual is wrong. An F3 can cast it with two gems. An F2 can cast it with Phoenix Power and 2 gems.

You can select Blade Wind for your E2 mage even though it is greyed out. If he casts Earth Power first, he won't need any gems - but if he has them he will use 1 with each casting to drop his fatigue from 80 to 40. Without Earth Power, he will still use 1 gem, but take full 80 fatigue each casting.

IIRC, Flaming Arrows changed in a patch. It was F3 when the game was released and thus in the manual.

Right, my mistake. 2 gems is the cap.

I don't think so, it's supposed to be that mages can spend at most their spell level in gems at a single spell.

A level 3 mage would be able to cast a level 4 spell if it costs 3 gems or less (up to their level in casting + 1 to increase their level for that specific spell), but not a level 4 spell that costs 4 or more.

As I read it your comment should be that "the cap is the caster's level in the path, +1 to increase his effective casting level."; or what Dimaz said.

Am I wrong?

Yes.

A mage can spend up to his path level in gems on a single spell. This includes 1 gem that may be spent to increase his effective level. (Path level includes boosters, levels from communions or previously cast path boosters spells, but not the level from the gem.)

So your level 3 mage could cast level 4 spell that cost 2 gems. He would use 3 gems to do it. 2 for the spell and 1 to boost him to 4th level. If it cost 3 gems, he couldn't do it because he can only use 3 gems and has none left to boost his level.

I'm about 95% certain of this. I swear I've seen exceptions mostly involving blood mages using up slaves faster than they should, but I haven't been able to replicate it.

Alright, I went with Dimaz assumption that the gem spent on increasing your level also allowed another gem to be spent, I had no idea if it was true or not. Thanks for extrapolating.
