growltigga, Your High Pontificateness,
My sweetheart says she plays the same way you "claim" you will be playing.

Sinapus, (if you ever visit the Cantina), our visitor asked me to say "Hi". She is from Houston / Friendswood.

Gryphin

Help, ahhhhhh, I am being dragged bodily away from the computer, helllppp.

Growltigga
May 24th, 2002, 05:35 PM
Dear Gryphin, your sweetheart appears to much further down the path to redemption than you. This is strange given her Texan background but still laudable.

I will help both of you to reach nirvana, the way of yen buddism is a trial but the strong will succeed and will reach affinity with themselves.

To progress Dear Gryphin, send me your money. A cheque will be fine but I will also accept international money orders. Keep in mind that they say "Money is the root of all evil", I wil take that evil from you to leave you fresh and reborn. Think of how much less burdened you will feel if all th evil in your life is gone - I will take this evil to me instead

Gryphin
May 24th, 2002, 05:39 PM
growltigga, Your High Pontificateness,
It is easy to understand how one like yourself who is lucky to have one woman in his life why you would be confused. My sweetheart is from Massachusetts, my other lover is visiting from Texas and challenges you to find one thing wrong with that hallowed place.

Growltigga
May 24th, 2002, 05:44 PM
Dear Gryphin, it is obvious that the spirits of evil tarnish your soul. It is clear that you have stooped so low that there is no depravity too heinous that you will not partake in. Verily, it is true that you will do anything TO anything.

Your soul needs to be restored to innocence. Only by relieving yourself of the burden of evil will you be able to do this. Money is that evil, send to me and I will relieve you of it.

With regard to Texas, get thee behind me Satan for it is well known that Texans are living evidence that Native Americans fornicated with buffalo

Gryphin
May 24th, 2002, 06:02 PM
Dear Chicken Tigga Ma(r)sala:

Interesting appellation...in Texas we are noted for our barbeque and our executions...but either way you get roasted.

Btw, the buffalo were in the plains states which albeit a valid way to explain Oklahomans is not applicable to Texans.

Growltigga
May 24th, 2002, 06:07 PM
Dear Gryphin.. you need to relieve yourself of your evils.. you are doing to this conversation what the sodomites did to one another.

It is written in the Book of Cyril that a certain sects of 'Okies' would marry buffalo, but it was their offspring which were banished from the plains and who migrated to the south of the United States. These 'Texans' took to sticking their heads up raccoon's bottoms and wearing them like hats, acting pompous, eating disgusting food and as to what they fornicated with, well, frankly anything that stood still long enough, albeit I do understand that moustaches, short sightedness and an affinity for line dancing were considered desired traits in their partners.

There is too much money in Texas, hence it is a cesspit of evil. They would do well to enlighten themselves and send this money to me.

Brother Uberteufel, anger like that is only bad for your karma and the tranquility of those around you. You should look deep inside yourself brother, look deep inside that fat, flabby, unattractive exterior and see the depth of the anger within you.

You will find dear Mephisto that the anger results from the person you are trying to be. Trying to emulate Michael Schenker is bad for you, trying to look like Helmut Kohl is bad for you - throw of these vices, send me you worldly wealth and I will help you regain some peace, harmony and normality in your life, at least as much normality as a German can reach.

Hey Tesco, yep, not only Friday nites, but most nites, I only get on late at night because, a. one of my 2 boys are usually on it, or 2, I'm watching my granddaughter... so i'm on late at night usually around 10-11p.

But I do have a question for ya, I've been reading the threads the the info on Mega Evil, Question, is it possible for 2 players, ai or human or combination to both be Mega E at the same time??? I would think that with everything that is currently in the game, that this could be a possiblity. Just curious

I'm on for awhile if you want to chat, then my son has the computer to practice for his upcoming counter strike clan match, sigh, I need another computer....

hope your feeling better

But it is a fun place to be especially if your into scientific knowledge or just plain banter. We do have some serious discussions every now and then,

Dogscoff, I'm sorry I didn't answer your question, even tho it does resemble him, I actually took the photo from the avatar section on this forum, but I will ck your site for the info. tks

Terran C, Most profound apoligies for the Manhatten, GT is in charge of seeing that everyone is accomodated with a brewski when they drop in, However, seeing how he has apparently reformed and is now a preacher, We shall have to appoint someone else to take over this aspect of the Cantina. We shall endeavor to rectify the situation asap, I know what its like to look foreward to something and end up dry http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Capnq, tks to you and SJ for the info, I was curious to see if it was possible and what changes it might put into the game, it could be quite interesting if it could be done. SJ said something about using a negative number and seeing if that would work, I'm not comp literate so I will leave that up to you and the others who know what they are doing in these areas. I was just curious. tks again , PS, You are entitled to a free drink of your choice here at the Cantina along with Terran C and SJ for answering my question and Dogscoff for my failing to answer his, I shall see who is taking over the bar and advise them on your iou's. The tabs on me... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Tesco, I don't know about the 4 player since were trying to get the main game going, but I'll wait and see what everyone else wants to do. Tesco > Do you think the Leafs still have a shot? They need to win the next two which I think is possible (33%) considering they outplayed the Hurricanes in game 4 (minus the silliness near the end) and lost in overtime in the other two. They just need to finish off the chances they get.

In regards to age, the bartender ususlly is very good at ages, if he feels that the person is under age, a substitue is issued with the same color, blend and a special secret concoction that even tastes like the real thing, therefore, we don't worry about age limits.....further, by law, a parent is allowed to give his underage off spring a brewski, therefore, since everyone in the Catina is Parentis Loco, we substitute for parents thus it is allowable, I hope this puts your mind at ease..... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Saxon, your story about having a bet riding on the outcome of your PBW gives me an idea for PBW funding:

PBW could offer a bet holding and management service. They could encourage players to play PBW for money. All players cough up the ordained amount at the beginning of the game, and the PBW team hold on to it until the winner is decided. Since the game could go on for months and months, the PBW crew could invest the cash in a "safe" investment and make a few pennies interest on it in that time. At the end of the game, they would decide the winner and pay out all the cash (minus interest). Lots of games with lots of players betting moderate sums could make this a viable venture.

Thy could also run tournaments with spectators placing bets, and PBW allocating odds based on previous victories etc.

If you think I'm serious about all this, BTW, you need another drink.

Edit: Wrong name. *hic*

Aahhh, I'm glad everyone is enjoying their brewskis, old mac here is holding the tab, until the end of Tommorrow night that is, my finances are not that plenty to let you guys indulge for an entire week. Gryphin, glad to see your back and all in one piece http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Saxon, Heros MM 4. We just started about 4 wks ago. No time limit for a turn, We meet at friends house, and while one is taking his turn, we are in other room watching TV, baseball, moview and just hashing over various games we play like SE4, and Shogun. Usually play Sunday nights for about 5 hrs. So far worked out ok, But we've done this before when we play SE4 Hotseat, we just finished a game of SE4, (I came in 3rd by the way). So we thought we'd try MM4 before we get into Gold w/mods. We are all trying different mods to see which one we want to start with in SP.

SJ, I don't see the Story THread on your Sig??don't forget your free drink on the house.....

Quiet? I have a feeling that work has grabbed a few of us and kept us far too busy.

Now, I feel the need to grumble. None of our games, or any PBW/PBEM game should have surrender turned on. I have just found out that I will not be able to win a great PBEM game as the number one player is set to do the domino surrender. Once they get the other races giving up, you can not catch them. It is a 10% boost to their empire every few turns. I can pull of a few great victories against bad odds, but not the infusion of stuff he will be getting. As such, I have to cough up for a new computer game. He is agreeing not to do the domino, but I still lose the bet.

Also, the whole issue of surrendering to another player warps things. If someone quits, we should just let the AI run the empire into the ground. Sure, the guy the closest to the empire will get some freebies, but not too much.

On a totally different subject. Mac, are you playing Hero’s of Might and Magic III or IV? I loved III and just got IV, but have not had a chance to try it out much. When you play hot seat, do you put a time limit on the turns? When we tried without a time limit, it took forever. One of us ended up reading a book while the other played.

saxon: I agree with you abut the surrendering thing, it can really turn multiplayer sour. Another solution (if you're in contact with all of the existing players) is to divide up your empire evenly and gift it all away, so everyone benefits but no-one more than anyone else.

Rest stays.

I will create the game on Thursday just before we watch the leafs win another game 7..( those in Canada )... and the day before the world cup starts.

Tesco, I'm game, hopefully its as easy as Mephistos (setup wise that is), So as soon as that one is set up, I'll be playing both,..... so make sure you use different name, as for Intel.... why not, makes it more interesting and devious, (I'd probley get taken over just on Puppets Parties)

Is this for fun w/role playing or just playing...
Could I still use the Empire I'm using in our other game of Mephistos ???

tks SJ, I do like to read the story lines, your sig makes them easier to find....

I am also confused. I sent my race to Mephisto, as I thought he was sorting things out. Hmm, does anyone know what is going on?

On an almost as important topic, I have a date tomorrow night. Naturally, I will ask Gryph what I need to do. Tigga would just tell me to wear a bag over my head, which seems to have worked for him, but I feel that there might be a better way.

Saxon,
What to do on a date? I am honored by your request.
The secret to my success is “Charisma”. The key to my charisma is humor and honesty. By not trying I usually get far more than I dreamed of. It also helps to assure them you are interested in their:
Core Values, Intelligence, and some other true interest of yours such as hiking or gnu kissing. You can offer to share the secrets of TGP or CTW but be careful. If you can’t deliver, you will lose them.

mac5732
May 30th, 2002, 05:09 PM
I'm also confused (and it doesn't take much), i already sent my race to Mephisto, do I have to now send it to Tesco???

Saxon, in regards to what to do on a date, The discoverere of CTW and TGP is most definitly the one to ask, however,

I think your question should be WHAT NOT TO DO ON A DATE.

A. do not tell her that you talk to Moose Kissers, Gnu chasers, Tiggas, Fluffy Bunnies, Gryphins, Furry Feline Fillies, Taz devils, Dogs, those who look like a Scarecrow with a Pumpkin for a head holding a pitchfork, frogs with large protruding eyes, or the numerous other, ahem, gratutious persons that frequent this cantina or the forum..
b. Do not, during conversation, start a discussion on glazing planets, improving upon your quantum torpedos, or the pros and cons of PPB vs WMG
c. Do not discuss how you have taken control of x amount of planets in the Orion system or that the Phong have declared war because you intruded upon their space.

But Research questions are allowed, I would recommend, after a fair amount of brewskis, as to the inquiry if she has ever run across Circle the Wagons or the Gryphin Position. This could be of immense help if she has in fact run across these most elusive of theories. The research potential would be of great help in the furtherance of science. This would more then likely impress her with your overall knowledge into the wonders of the universe and to adhere her mind to yours on a high level of enjoyment. But care must be taken in this area, as if she hasn't and asks you what your talking about, your on your own and good luck on your explanation (but you can blame it on the gryphin http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )

A man's enjoyment is when he has the computer to himself for a whole day without interruptions and he's playing SE4.....

As I look back on the conversation, I see you all have been having a jolly time. Mac, congratulations and hopes for many more. I'm sorry I missed out on the free brews! I could use some just about now.

Just wondering, do you all play races you have made with pictures you have also made? I don't mind making a race (though what's best for make 'em is a mystery to me) but I always borrow a pre-made shipset.

I've downloaded a few shipsets from the PBW site, mostly for the fun of looking at the various types of art, and be awed at the skill of some of the artist here! I have found one (Gremlins) that I like to use. The name reminds me of my PC's operating system.

Are any of you regulars (I almost think of you as friends after reading so many Posts by you's all) looking for some fodder in a PBW game? If so, I'm in! I've never played any SEIV game past turn 100 so all your talk of high tech stuff goes waaaayyyy beyond me. Still, it is fun reading through your stories as well as how much more fun human opponents are over the AI.

Life has been tough without SEIV PBW games, but it can be endured, for a price (AI opponents), barely. My wife says cleaning up all the laundry really will make me feel better, specialy if I also clean the kitchen floor, cat box, garden tools, old mail, old dishes, vacuum, do windows, fold shirts, and cook dinner soon as well as breakfast. Playing for money in my opinion, takes the fun out of the game, everyone then plays for blood, opens game up for cheating, hard feelings become a thing of the present, friendships are lost, etc, If something is wanted for a tournament, how about a nice certificate or two for the winners instead of money, easier to get, less hassle, no liability, less chance for blood tournaments..this is just my opinion...

I. Fyron, hmmm a Donut shop huh, not bad idea, better homemade then the ones you buy in the store,, this has possibilities.

In regards to glassing vs glazing, to glass ones enemies planets is to engage in the lucrative process of enveloping the sphere in question under a layer of fine see thru and breakable material. if there are any survivors after the illustrious depopulation of said sphere, they would be able to break thru the material and once again spread their evil seed throughout the universe.

Therefore, glazing is more appropriate, as this entails the coating of a hard reflective surface used in parking lots, airports, and other large areas which in turn seals everything underneathe without the misbegotten chance of survivors breaking out. It also makes for a nice shiney sphere that entices, thru its reflective beauty, other races to investigate closer until they realize that this could happen to them, (especially if they fail to trade or give tech and resources to the Tka-Chik Empire)

I see that you are enjoying the pleasures of the Cantina, I do hope you put the keg on the Tiggas tab, I know he would embrace your forsightedness in applying your happiness at his expense. In the morning I would not try Terran C's egg in coffee for the morning after stimulant, hmm, I would probably use either Tesco's or Puke's wonderous Sauces to invigerate your poor, abused, sloshed, system. Walmart, unfortunately I am not going home before I fly out to the Land of the Dried Squid so I cannot send my game to you

Please start without me if necessary as I might just decide to abandon the current Mrs GT and stay out in Japan with a geisha

"Brewing" is the key word here. Any micro brewery will naturally tend to produce better ale than the mass produced stuff you get (I mean budweiser and coors and miller is absolute cack) as will the love and care you put into your own idea.

Let me introduce you to one of my brother's business interests. He has a timeshare style brewery - you join up, pay a fee a that entiels you to brewing time in the professionally run professional brewery - If I recall an initial fee of £50 plus £5 a month entitles you to enough time to brew about 25 gallons - sounds expensive BUT it is done professionally, to your own requirements and/or recipy, by professionsla using professional ingredients - you can even have your own labels printed and bottles made and I think it works out at about 60p per imperial pint.

The majority of the beer is better than 'saleable' standard, some of it is truly superb

I am a member (hell this is family) and I get the beer delivered to me up here 300 miles from the brewery. Costs peanuts but I currently have about 60 litre bottles of 'GT's old breastrub', a nice session ale using kentish golden hops and with a touch of coriander

He has a 2 year waiting list. Great idea

and Tigga seeks to remind the lot of you that he is tighter than a duck's chuff hole and you have as much chance of getting a brew (and especially a meal) out of the Tigga as you do of getting your bits'n'bobs with britney!

Mac, you have some real dietary problems - I think you should try a nice Morroccan dish, something like oyster charenntaise, a lamb tagine with jewelled cous cous (heavy on the apricots), a vegetable chermoula with a lime tzatziki and maybe some brondade - followed by calvados as a digestiv...no that is pub food

PS I should introduce you to my brother Steve - he doesnt do computer games other than Cutthroats and Rogue Squadron - but he proves I am the runt of the family, he is 6 foot 6 tall, absolutely no fat and weighs about 320 pounds. He represented our county in running, swimming and judo. He also has a beard and puts platts in it - I still havnt found anyone except my mum who is willing to tell him he looks a pratt with them

GT, your cuisine sounds interesting, however, I do not think my interior designs would take gently to apricots, oysters, and the rest this early in the morning, (here it is only 9am) so even tho I'm willing to try various dishes from around the world, I must stick with scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, hash browns and rye toast, oh and a good cup of coffee, siigghhhh, ever get that sleepy feeling after stuffing yourself with palible delights,, yawn

Sports vs Space Empires?
I know I’m strange. I happily played Space Empires through the Super Bowl and the Boston Marathon. The marathon passes my apartment close enough to hear the crowd cheering. I knew when the first wheel chair, male runner, and female runner went by. The Supper bowl I followed by the sound and vibrations in the apartment building I live in.
Of Brews and Brewing, those were the days. I fully concur with the consensus of American brews. I like Guinness the most but there are a couple of Ales from England I enjoy depending on the weather. Along with playing Space Empires toooooo much and other by products of my Attention Deficit Disorder I can not drink more than the occasional glass of wine. Now a days I concentrate on using the Gryphin Position while Circling the Wagons with my sweethearte and our friends.

< Political Rant >
If you knew how much the Coors people trashed the environment in their area you would not drink the stuff.

Thread
While no one here will flame anyone. There are certain people who will get ignored. I guess you might say I am <b>very</b> “Politically Correct” in some areas. There is one handle here I will not reply to because it offends me and others. Others would say I am too serious. Both are true.

Gryph - I agree with you, I am a bit of a treehugger myself. As for the Coors, it is sad about the environmental aspect of it but I personally dont drink the beer cos it tastes like piss.

I try to be open-minded about political correctness but I due think some people's handles and signatures are inappropriate.

Mephisto pointed this out to one young chap on the 'How old are you' thread. I think he did the right thing.

Well, you can try and put drinks on my tab but I think you will find that I will deny all knowledge of it and will take the '5th' I believe you north americans call it.

Actually, the lot of you are such a bunch of drinking wusses that a week of the tab would probably not get over $20.. you cannot beat a european for drinking ability, style, panache, elegance, sexual prowess and a dislike for north american beer-wendys

Actually, hearing about what goes on with youngsters in some of the more sordid parts of the Far East, may be 'Youth in Asia' is more appropriate for Mac than 'Euthanasia'

Easy peazy lemon squeezy

In the UK, Tesco are our largest supermarket chain

Samoa is a Micronesian Island chain. Fiji is also an Micronesia island chain.

Therefore 'Tesco Samoa' becomes 'Walmart Fiji'

Well, I think you are actually being unfair to your countrymen there Chardo Mon. Whilst I generally feel that being American is horribly flawed (cue revenge spams) and that the majority of US bars are nasty, I have found some cracking micro-brewery bars in the States.

Good food, great beer (for the US) and barn-like interiors makes for a happy night for me.

English bars tend to be a mix from hyper trendy to Old Bull n Bush types. Each has its place but each is excellent when England are playing Johnny Foreigner

Now the Europeans can do some well good bars - I have had some of the happiest nights of my life in sweaty continental bars jumping around with sweaty continental lasses

Notes: Chardon's Last post was #911 and reguarded two "rescue" workers. Hmm, I love a good coincedence.

Anybody here know how to give a "strategy" to a ship I successfuly "crew insurrected". They finaly saw they were going to lose and mutined. Craven dogs, (Toltayan).
If I don't give it a strategy it will glass a planet that it is sitting over. I have "fleeted" it with itself and give the fleet a strategy. Will that be enough?

2nd quesiton:
A different Toltayan DN whoes craven crew mutenied was in a fight with a a loyal Toltayan DN.
The Craven ship had 3 drones
The Loyal ship had lots of Plama Missle V's.
Combat Replay:
None of the Craven's drones hit in the combat replay.
The Crave was hit by at least 15 PMs
The Loyal ship took 50 percent damage. They fought again same results.
This took place at a warp point.

I have saved the files

Any ideas folks?

My dear Tesco, in regards to LARD, I thought you meant Left And Right Damage in regards to the Ole Pizza swiper Gryphin, and as far as Grease, I thought you were commenting on the movie/play of the same name, hmmmm you mean there was something different,, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

In regards to juices and the other ingrediants, I must say they are most healthy type organisms, however, when one was working, sweating and trying to figure out what a World Cup had to do with the World Series, your truly was looking foreward to a nice ice cold brew washed down with a high Cholesteral, rich in fat, loaded with protein, yummy pizza, however, as has been seen, it was rudely confiscated by a most notorious adversary who in turn learned to "Look Before You Leap".

It is not every cantina that has an on duty and on call Para-Medic. Thank you Mephisto for securing the healing apparatus to adjust the Notorious Gryphin's (pizza swiper) injuries. In fact it would be appripriate for you, after applying the numerous bandaids and ointment, to obtain a poloroid photo and post it here on the cantina's "Infamous Rogues Gallery" for public viewing. (You know the one over the bar)

Terran C, Calzones are just mini pizzas rolled over on their sides.....but they are delicious if made right....

In additon, I have research a number of Military tactic books and manuals and civil litigation records, and nowhere does it list a "Rose Bush" as a weapon. It is only a form of nature and thus can not be constituted as any type of weapon. (this just teachs one to look before you leap)

In regards to any lawsuits, Mephisto, who is an attorney in waiting, is unable to pursue any claims as he has not completed his schooling, and besides, since he is the cantina's paramedic it could be a possible conflict of interest.
However, I shall endeavor to discuss this with the Growltigga upon his return from his Asian escapde and I'm sure he would more then be willing to represent me on a pro bono case once he learns of the dastardly deed commited upon my most humble person by the suspect Gryphin.

Taz, I'm glad you are enjoying the wonders of the cantina, drink up, the tabs still on the Tigga, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Hey, has anyone seen the Saxon?? Since he told us he was embarking upon a date, he has mysteriously been awful silent, hmmmmmm,,, Gryphin, did you send him the theories on the CTW or TGP???? I wonder if he is in recovery from his experience.. I hope he didn't try to discuss the different combat attitudes of the Phong or EEE with his young fillie....

Well, Mrs Mac wants me to pick up some mulch for the backyard, so I shall be in and out most of the day. Work never ends you know

Medicaly speaking,
The best way to avoid a hangover is abstenance.

The second best way is to drink as much water as you do beer.

The best cure for a hangover is water and aspiren.

Reasoning: The hangover is more due to dehydration than alcahol poinsoning.

Friday afternoon, before the date, Saxon is sorting out where to go to dinner. As the lady in question is Luo, a tribe from near Lake Victoria known for eating fish, he thinks of a nice sushi restaurant. He then goes to the young woman, “Do you like fish?” She replies in the affirmative. He then says, “Why don’t we go to this nice restaurant I know that serves fish, you can eat as much fish as you like.” She replies that this is delightful.

They arrive at said restaurant and she declares that she is a vegetarian. He politely asks if that means she does not eat fish. She affirms that she does not eat fish or any kind of meat. He shakes his head. He follows Gryphin’s advice on being charming, though finding that there are more and more issues suggesting that she is not as delightful as one had hoped. He drops her off and resolves that he will not be calling her again.

Gryphin’s advice worked and Saxon received eleven phone calls on Saturday and Sunday. He did not answer the phone calls. He will read Mac’s advice and answer the next call. The EEE will save the day as their battle tactics are discussed at length.

Bartender! A jug of beer every fifteen minutes until closing. Yes, Tigga’s tab.

From the looks of things, it is a very quiet day here on the forum... hmmm I wonder if they all imbribed upon themselves of the Tiggas goodness and drank to all their hearts content here at the cantina over the weekend on his tab?? Oh well, he can always work it off doing dishes or trimming the rose bushes...

Saxon, sorry to hear your experience with the Sushi Fillie. 11 phone calls???? I must have a talk with Gryphin, apparently he has found something that we may be able to bottle and sell. We could make a fortune.

Mephisto, tks for the photo of the Notorious Grypnin, It does look like he enjoyed himself withhin the Rose Bush. It'll hang here in the Rogues Gallery over the bar for everyone to see. Hopefully it'll also make others stop and think before they formulate plans to swipe one's pizza and spilling one's brewskis. In regards to the suit, I appreciate your taking your paramedic vows seriously here at the cantina and not using you legal expertise to file friviless, uncalled for suits on behalf of some notorious, deranged, scrupuless entitiy that permeats swiping another's pizza and spilling his ice, cold brewski. I shall pass this whole incident along to the Tigga upon his return as I'm sure he'll enlighten us with some meaningful guidence and abstract concerns over the vile deed in question. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Tesco, and Gryphin, I shall try your recommended suggestions in regards to hangover dismissal. I'm trying to remember what we used when I was in the service to shake off the after affects after a night of liberation. It's been awhile, hmmmm

Tesco. tried to upload my empire on PBW site, it said "not a player or can't upload now", is site down again or what.. want to make sure its not something I'm doing, you know me and these infernal machines.... let me know tks

Also I do have several SE4 questions..
1. in the player set up - under general details,
you have the design name files list, just exaxtly what do these do and what are they for???
2. same area. You have set minister style, aggressive, neutral or defensive. In regards to the ai, what exactly is the difference if you pick one of these or just leave blank, is there any difference in the play, If you set the ai to bloodthirsty or one of the others, do these also have an effect on the ai player, what happens in same circumstance if you pick say bloodthristy but do not pick a minister style??

Now I'm really confused, I just went back to the PBW site and it shows I'm ready for turn, so did my empire go thru or not?????

1. That is the list of ship names that you can use when designing ships.

2. Yes, there is a difference in the Minister Styles. However, it is best to disable the AI (via the button in the Ministers tab of the Empire Options window in the game). If you really want to know, the behaviors make the AI act as they sound.

Also, the Demeanors in the Description tab do not do anything in the game. They are merely an indication of how the player will act or how the AI for the race is designed to act. There are no hard-coded functions associated with them.

Happiness Type makes a huge difference on what makes your people happy. Always select Peaceful. With Bloodthirsty, your people get angry when you colonize planets, and when you make most treaties. Neutral is always a bad idea. Whatever you do, your people get angry.

mac5732
June 4th, 2002, 05:59 AM
Fyron, tks, still little confused on the ship name thing, when you open up the window, it shows stuff like brazil.txt, etc, what happens if you clik on them? If i clik on them that means it gives special names.., still slightly confused, its the age thing you know http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

In regards to the ministers,
also, so the best thing when setting up an ai player is not to set one of these 3 options, just leave alone, or go ahead and pick one, I know about not using them for my race

learning mac (but its a slow process)

It doesn't do anything until you start the game and go to the ship design window. There, in the names field, there is a downwards pointing arrow. Clicking on it will bring up a scrolling list of names that you can select for the ship. The names in this list are determined by which file that you selected when you created your empire. If you want to look at the design names files beforehand, (warning, technical mumbo-jumbo coming up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) they are located in the Dsgnname folder located in the folder where you installed SE4. Each text (.txt) file in there is one of the name Groups that you can select to use in the game. You can put more files in there (and even make one of your own), and they will be available when you create an empire. It does not matter if other people in the game have the names file that you use, because it is only accessed when you go to design a ship.

when it was downloading, it was doing the files, but when it got to the data.txt file download , there was longer handle but ending was data.txt, it hung up, showed 100%, then sat there, I couldn't get out of the screen after waiting about 7-8 min. used ctrl-alt-del to get out, then on bottom of task bar, showed some rectangel, i cliked on it and it said tdm loaded alright, I checked the launcher and cliked on tdm, it showed 3.11, cliked play se4, showed neew races, but haven't played yet to see if it loaded ok, just trying to figure if it loaded ok, weird. I do play sp, but also hot-seat with friends in SE4 and Heroes Mite & majic 4, just learning that one, but we only play on sundays, rest of time its sp, unless i play with my oldest son (24) also just starting to play PBW, always played in tactical combat, so strategic warfare only, will be new experience for me in pbw so i'm reading threads to see what to do and what not to do...

Tesco,

She called eleven times, but I only answered once. My cell phone lists the number calling, so I was able to tell she had called the other ten times. I have now created “distance” and I think she is getting the idea. Funny how well the talk of the EEE worked. Now I just need to find someone else to try out Gryhin’s magic formula on.

Also, I have had both Ostrich. Ostrich is raised all over the place here and shows up on a lot of menus. You need to be careful though, it can get very tough, so only order at a reputable restaurant or have a lot of that hot sauce to dissolve it. Actually, there is a very cute waitress at the restaurant that serves the best ostrich fillet, perhaps I will have to go and check things out…

Mephisto
June 4th, 2002, 11:01 AM
Morning all!

First of all: I'm sorry to hear about the fire. How did this happen?

2.) Mac, TDM should have installed correctly. The install program waits for the XCopy-dosbox to close and I think it didn't for you. When you where Alt-Del-ing it, the program finished as planned.

3.) Xcopy is needed to copy most of the files as the install program cannot copy files to a location that is more then 150 characters long (path and file name added together, that is).

4.) The AI settings in the setup of races should be avoided. SE4 comes with 3 generic AI sets (defensive, neutral, aggressive). If you set this for a races it will use these AI files and not the ones in its races folder, in expression, it will use generic ones and not the ones the author designed for the race.

Hope this helps!

PROBLEM

Ok, the other day my second HD stopped working.
(Shortly after installing Kazaa.

At first I thought it was a burn out, got too hot, but now, since I am have boot problems, I think it may either be the MB (An MSI) or a virus in the CMOS/BIOS

You see, whenever I start up the PC, it can not detect my Primary HD. I then have to reboot, go into the BIOS, and redetect it, then restart. That usually fixes the problem, and my PC boots up.

This is getting very annoying to have to do every time so I would like your best guess as to what the problem is. Thanks.

Atrocities,
<pray>
To clear the CMOS,
Unplug the system
Remove the battery
<if possible>
Remove any cards with upgradable BIOs
Replace with old cards
</if possible>
Remove any unnessasary cards such as Network card. Many of them have upgradable BIOs

Boot off floppy or CD that you have put the BIOs file on.
(you prepared at work or at a freinds)

Flash the BIOs
Boot off a floopy or cd with anti virus on it
Boot off of a CD with anti virus
</pray>
Folks, anymore ideas? I probalby left something out

Gryphin.

Perhaps it is just the battery.

How old is the said computer ??

And what type is it??

Just replacing your battery may be all you need ... if you can avoid flashing the bios do so unless your confortable doing stuff like that.

If you think it is a virus go to Mcafree and scan your system. You can do it right from there web site.

But it sounds like a battery problem.

ATX Boards are easy to replace the battery.

Your looking at 10 to 20 dollars and 1 minute to open the case remove the old battery and place the new one in.

Thanks guys, I will replace the battery. The system is less than a year old. The MSI MB has been a PITA since day one. It would not surprise me to find out its just a battery.

I have scanned the system for viruses and have found none. Thanks guys. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Oh this is a serious sad state of affairs. Here it is 4 am west coast time, and there is something on the order of 25 people lurking the forum. LOL

Hell even Richard is on line.

It has been like this most of the night. 10 to 20 people on line at all times. I guess that says a lot about the popularity of this forum, and SEIV in general. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
