Illwinter

Hello all, I'm new to this forum, though I've been playing Dominions 2 for a while, and lovin' it.

And I was wondering have any of you succeded in calling forth the Rimtursar, the uber giants that the spell Illwinter speaks of. I had it active for about 250 turns, though not a single giant spawned. The only thing that happened was that it grew a little colder and the unrest in my provinces increased.
Is there something I need to do to trigger the event, use a special theme? Was playing the Utg�rd theme when I tried out the spell.
Any info would be much appreciated.

I hate to disappoint you, but you can't actually call the Rimtursar with Illwinter. The only real use of the spell is for Jotunheim or Caelum to make the world a nice frigid place (for them).

What a shame. =/ Would have been awesome if there would have been some giant equivalent to the demon lords that can be summoned in the blood magic line.

Has anyone ever tried to wish for Rimtursar? I doubt that a new unit will arise (given the unit-view-map), but I wonder for the effect obtained...

As I understand it, Niefel Giants and Niefel Jarls are the ancestors of the Jotun giants, added for DomII without changing any of the old stuff of Dom:PPP. I think Illwinter would summon Niefel Giants, if anything.

By the way, shouldn't the 'Son of Niefel' be renamed to 'Son of Rimtursar' or 'Lord of Niefel'? It is somewhat strange to have Niefel Jarls worshipping Son of Niefel...

I've been told that Jotunheim doesn't experience unrest when the Illwinter goes up, which makes the fact that Neifelheim starts with Illwinter on their spelllist into something totally awesome.

In SP on 2.15 I was getting unrest with illwinter as jotun, neifel theme.

Honestly its not that great of a spell. I think illwinter should show some developer ego and make it more powerful!

The rimtursar of norse mythos were known as the sons of Niefel. Niefel is a short for niefelheim and the sons of niefel are the giants sprung from this place.

The spell Illwinter was made before the Niefelheim theme. Thus the lack of giants. Perhaps something should be done about this
