Default Penetration vs Smite

Hi all,

Is penetration bonus works on a priest that cast smite? I'm thinking of lizard king with penetration bonus for better smiting power.

AS far as I know, yes. Penetrations bonuses apply to any and all spells that can be resisted with a MR check.

I guess the original question referred to the focus amulet that gives 1 penetration (are there other items that give penetration?)

What good is this really? I have no experience in this, but does +1 really make any difference that is wortwhile the gem cost plus the fact that it takes up a slot?

Yes, it does.

Consider spells like Soul Slay, Charm, etc. Save or die - or worse! These are the main counter to supercombatants. Mass enough mages, and one will eventually get through. Due to how the Dominions system works, going a little bit higher will make the chance of success a lot better in some cases, and not noticiably better in others, but it never hurts.

Probably not worth it for a smiter, though.

Smite only affects one unit. And check that table on page 5.

So, I'd avoid adding penetration to smiters, usually. Though if I had an area attack-mr spell, a 6-15% change in results can be handy. I might equip them for single target spells if I have some unit I need to take out with the units available- but I wouldn't dedicate it to a smiter, since smite is usually good enough for most small fry, and more smiters are much better than a small change in percentage.

Ctis:
Barring special occasions, I'd give the penetration items to my Sauromancers/Marshmasters/etc - units capable of casting shadow blast, or other similar spells. Lizard Kings will find penetration items useful, but in most circumstances your mages will make better use of it.

Worthwhile for any level_3 or higher casting banishment.
