I'm not seeing Alkhazar on the server list, and the address Fyron posted last time isn't working.

Just to let you know, I have been roped into helping the builder renovate the house so it looks like starting the end of next week I'll be busy for what I am told is a week or two. Also some time in the future someone is organising some work experience for me but I don't know when that will be yet.

Randallw
February 7th, 2006, 12:19 AM
I'm sorry I have to call off the game tomorrow. As I mentioned previously a friend of my sisters is renovating downstairs for her, and as a result we have had to clear away all our storage. I havn't had the time to plan out the next session. I was going to do it today but I have to take down shelves and move more stuff. This is the first chance I've had to use the computer today.

Randallw

I don't think I'll have time to play tomorrow. I'll start up the server though. Feel free to NPC my char if need be.

Randallw
February 14th, 2006, 06:08 AM
Well I know that Narf commonly has something else (Choir wasn't it?) so if he can please verify or not, seeing as how there are only 2 players so far. I feel it might not be worth it with only 2 players.

Randallw
February 14th, 2006, 06:12 AM
oh, also I feel that I must point out a short time ago I received a call from a priest my mother knows saying he will come tomorrow to pick up some old furniture we have. Most likely I will be told to help move it. He's coming tonight to get some smaller things. I'll try and remember to find out what time he will most likely come tomorrow.

Violist
February 14th, 2006, 06:47 AM
OK, got my schedule sorta sorted out. I can come, but I'll have to leave at 6:15 for another rehearsal with my duet partner.

Randallw
February 14th, 2006, 06:59 AM
Well Violist appears to have to leave early. Fyron can't come anyway, and Narf hasn't said anything yet, but it doesn't matter anyway because Father Quinn says he will be around 1pm tomorrow probably which is right in the middle of any session (yes I realise also about the time Violist leaves, though it could well be sooner). I can see moving the furniture into the trailer will take at least half an hour, maybe longer depending on help. Fate conspires against us, but I really hope we can continue next week.

Edit: in future I think I will ask the group earlier for schedules, although in my case things came up suddenly.

Randallw
February 14th, 2006, 08:37 AM

I don't know if Fyron will be able to set up the server even if he will be late, but seeing as how I really want to get on with things, instead of risking the game petering out, I will prepare for tomorrow. It's ok if we only get a truncated session tomorrow, as long as we get to do something. Of course I still need to hear from Violist and douglas to make sure if they turn up.

Fyron

I am seriously thinking about this, the question is only when would I have the time? Here are my *ahem* (it has been a very long time since I played last) credentials based on the first post in the thread:

When are you available: Not sure yet, need to take a long hard look at my schedule as I have four classes this semester.

Experience being DM: Yes, about four years but never thought I was very good at it. I am starting to DM for my family but this is in the very old basic edition of D&D. Easier for them to follow and I can always work them up to later version as they get better.

Would you like to DM: No, but if I understand right Narf has that base covered already.

Do you have the 3.0 or 3.5 player’s handbook? No, the edition I have is 2nd. This goes for all of my material which is pre-TSR buyout and mostly focused on DL. On the good side I have LOTS of material. It fills an entire box. I have no problem with buying the latest books and would want to before making a final decision. I don’t know how much TSR has changed the game and I prefer to play Magic with cards (jk).

E-Tools: I have seen the links for the tools in the thread.

So before I move forward to make a final yes or no does it sound as if I am qualified? If so are there any slots open and how would the character creation work, i.e. starting level, money, and any other adjustments to keep with the current party?

narf poit chez BOOM
April 7th, 2006, 02:36 AM
Well, first, I'm not running this game. I was running the other game, but Jack Simth does a much better job. I think too much to run a chat game well. On the other hand, I appear to do much better on forum games.

Second, 3.5 has a lot of changes. No thac0, no wierd 'lower AC is better', one standard level list...I'd recommend at least the Player's Handbook.

Oh - Online System Reference Document. All the information on it has an open liscence. Looking through it could help you know what has changed. http://www.d20srd.org/

Fyron
April 7th, 2006, 05:07 AM
Yeah, just go with the SRDs. You don't really need to buy the books these days, unless you prefer a hard copy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

"So before I move forward to make a final yes or no does it sound as if I am qualified?"

Certainly.

"If so are there any slots open..."

Honestly, we lose players all the time... There is always a seat for new players! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

"...and how would the character creation work, i.e. starting level, money, and any other adjustments to keep with the current party?"

We are currenly at level 6. The PHB (I think) contains a chart of starting gold based on level, which you can exchange for items. We don't keep too careful track of individual experience (at least, I don't), but rather just all level up at the same time when Randall tells us it is time.

We use a point buy system instead of silly dice rolls for statistics. I've got a table up on the site:

http://dnd.spaceempires.net/start.php

The characters we have are Narf as a wizard, Douglas as a Psion, ZeroAdunn as a... something with a bunch of nature skill, perhaps a ranger (he just joined recently), and myself as a fighter.

Randallw
April 7th, 2006, 06:11 AM
Note also that Fyron is a Thri-Keen. I'm perfectly happy with accomdating anything a player might want, we sort of let fly the fact that Fyron is this giant insect running around a Norse setting (at the moment). You're perfectly welcome to join, and other players seem to get along fine without the actual books. I'm the only one who needs tons of books for me to plan everything. Before you join however I would like to point out something that isn't really a problem as long as everyone else is happy with it. I feel we go along at quite a comfortable pace. Today, granted we started late, all we did was run a single encounter handing over some babies, and usually we get in 1 combat. I do sort of wish we moved along quicker, but as long as everyone is happy it's not a problem.

President_Elect_Shang
April 7th, 2006, 10:24 AM
I don’t have a problem with the pace of things; it is just looking to find the time. Sounds like things have changed a lot which I expected in the TSR take over. You encountered a group of what? Babies, and the Thri-Kreen didn’t eat them? Must be Lawful-Good or did they toss out that system as well?

Fyron
April 7th, 2006, 11:20 AM
The system has changed in 3.x, but IIRC 3.0 was started before the buyout. Note that 2.0 was perfectly fine with allowing monstrous PCs, having a few supplemental rulebooks to cover them (as with 3.x). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There were a group of fensir (trollish creatures without the regeneration) that had been preying on the likestock of farmers. The babies were left over after defeating the adults.

My thri-kreen was outvoted in my initial plans for the babies, sadly. Then I missed the session that finalized the last Fensir encounter.

Alignment is still alive and kicking.

Partly I forgot, partly my brother wanted the computer, partly me not putting my 6:45 excursion on my schedule (Otherwise known as the computer desktop).

As for my bad memory - No idea where it's from. As for how bad it is...I've literally walked down or up the stairs and forgotten what I was going to do. Yesterday is a vague blur that someone spray-painted.

Randallw
June 4th, 2006, 08:45 PM
We try to get together once a week and use OpenRPG to play. We only have a few players and recently we've had trouble getting everyone together. At the moement we play on thursday evenings at I believe 5pm PST (I am in Australia so for me it's 10am on Friday). I DM, and the party has been going from one area to another. If a player can't make it his character mysteriously dissapears for the week, but none of the characters comments on it.

At the moment, and this may be an opportunity to remind the players. A local "landowner" on a "viking" type island hired the party to find out what happened to one of his aides who was investigating a mine. The party found that the miners had gone insane and that unnatural creatures, by which I mean Cthulhu type stuff, were lurking about the mine where an ancient castle had been discovered. Fyron posts the logs at his site.

http://dnd.spaceempires.net/adventures.php

There is also another game which Narf is part of, which I tried once, but the time wasn't right for me.

As Narf said, we do go a bit slow. I feel that I don't wish to push the players too much and stay at a pace everyone is comfortable with, with the occasional attempt to get things running again. Not that I wouldn't mind getting more done.

Addendum: and if you're interested in playing I am sure the party will agree with me when I say.... WE NEED A CLERIC http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Violist
June 4th, 2006, 09:37 PM
