View Full Version : Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong's Head Cantina
Growltigga
March 11th, 2002, 05:47 PM
Greetings all.
First, I am proud to announce that the 'Gryphin & Growltigga' thread is no more - it is passe, it is gone, it has died, it has shuffled off this mortal coil, it has gone to meet its maker, it has gone to the great graveyard of threads in the sky, it has suffered literary disillusion, it has been criticised, it has definately outlived its usefulness.
Second, welcome to the Galactic Bar & Grill and Phong's Head Cantina. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for all you busy SEIV afficionados and forum lurkers out there to get some OT relief, have a half of shandy and exchange some chat with fellow lurkers - in short, a general discussion thread.
Third, everybody is welcome, even Tesco Samoa

goodbye sweet G&G thread, it was fun while it Lasted, sigh http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
I really don't care which Version we use, but if its the gold, will need sometime to play it. Couldn't this weekend, OLD mother nature decided to be unmerciless and knocked out power to my area for almost 40hrs, just got it back early this morning. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif Whats everyone preference?
M'Lady Fyre, tis good to find an enlighting spirit among us frayed creatures. I am dismayed that your recent excursion was disappointing, but hang in there, one never knows whats around the next cornor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Hey GT, where's the Brewskies? If this is a Bar and Grill Pub, then the ones who started it should stand a round all around for us aged, semi-senile, accruments

Tesco, no worries. Gryph - we will see what we can do - it would be nice to show all you nancy north americans how to drink - that is still the one thing the English excel at.
Re the International Cat Squishing Session, this needs to start very soon. We will argue about settings later but first, Gold or Standard?
I am brassic so can't afford gold at the mo, I think Gryph is in the same position. Tesco is rolling in it so has his - Saxon has ordered his, Phoenix I dont know about (Gold, not Phoenix himself) Mac - dont know.
So far it is one vote either way (me for standard, Tesco for gold) - can we reach consensus please

Since I'm the oldest and therefore probably the most semi-senile, I need to go Last in case I can't remember what it is that I'm to order in the first place http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

"Come on in, take your shoes off"
You really don't want that.
I've had chemical weapons inspection instuments redline near my old sneakers, not to mention how my footwear left outside to dry has knocked down turkey vultures flying over our house.
I don't want to invite UN sanctions.

For the love of Pete, take Gold. It fixes many bugs, introduces nice little things and will be easily patch in the future. Sticking with 1.49 will be like sticking with the G&G thread: It was fun but is dead now.

Gryphin, after wr8th's, aahh, comment concerning his condition concerning his lower parts of his anatamy, I think maybe you might reconsider the part about "take of you shoes", we don't want to scare anyone off or wear masks while we're in the serious aspect of engaging in the illustrious condition of experating the testing of various brewskis here within the new bar/grill/catina to help us widen our scope of playing SE4 and to help us envision the looks and nominclature of new additional races for expansion of our gaming.

Do not EVER compare me to someone's odorous set of moisture absorbent footwear.
Good weapons plan BTW, would give organic races a real new feel - cue further weapons? the "Armpit of Doom"? the "Flatulentia Beam"? the "Naval Fluff cannon"? ooh the list is endless (and nauseating)
What is perth amboy BTW?

A remark like that coming from a native of a country that produced Pamela Andersen and Mike Myers is truly below comprehension and understanding.
Tesco, that is fighting talk - I thought you were the one weho survived off moose butgers, raccoon fritters and deep fried marmot
Us English are leading the way in avant garde fusion cuisine - when I was over in the states recently looking askance at the local riffraff, ALL the TV chef shows were English culinary gurus - Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein, Delia Smith, Anthony Worral-Thompson, Nigella Lawson (grr grr) etc etc
I suspect the local talent is still working out which end of a knife to use (and that is with two choices)

Saxon, deep fried mars bars are a Scottish delicacy and any Scot on this forum would be mortified to be lumped together with us sassennachs - you can actually buy deep fried mars bars in Paris - bit of a rage at the mo' I am hearing
And I refuse to take guff from anyone from a nation that is famous the world over for giving us north american cuisine - I know, I have been there, I have seen the obese people walking past all these fast food joints specialising in the four main north american food Groups, meat, fat, lard and burnt crunchy bits

Um, no, I can asure you that The Gryphin positon and CTW have noting to do with dogs or ponies.
A "Dog and Pony Show" is an Ammerican expresion refering to a "fancy" presentation. It comes from the circuss and carnavals that had trained animals "jumping through hoops", (another expression), and other tricks.

The sad story of an semi-senile, computer illiterate attempting to download Mods.
It was a dark nite, wife watching tv, kids out, granddaughter in bed, I sat at the computer, meditating, "The computer is my friend, we are as one", then armed with suggestions from friends on the forum, like, Tesco, SJ, PhoenixD and Val, I was ready, I hit the switch, it booted, so far so good, no problems, put the Gold CD in the drive, "the computer is my friend we are as one", Go to my computer, find CD drive, I strike.. it brings up the mods on the cd, excitement begins to slowly escalate thru my body, I clik on the Mod Launcher, Winzip opens, ah ha, I'm in. I attempt to load, BUT, where are the buttons for extract and load named folders?? I pause, "the computer is my friend we are as one", I hit unzip, its working, at least its going somewhere,
now for the resistonce, I find TDM-Mod and P&N, do the same thing, everything looks ok, The excitment is flooding my body, I quickly go back to the SE4Gold folder, looking in ecstacy for the enjoyment that will shortly be mine. I look, I stop, I stare in disbelief, "The computer is my friend we are as one", No where are any of the three showing in the SE4 directory. Hmmm, Don't panic I say, I look further, I find the launcher on the left screen of Windows explorer, but nothing listed, sweat now breaks out rolling down my aging frame, but wait, no problem, "the computer is my friend we are as one", I decide to try another solution, go to my computer again, with shaky finger I clik on D drive. There are the mods again. Ok, ok, slowly, clik and drag the Launcher, TD-Mod & P&N onto the desktop, Success, oh yes, "the computer is my friend we are as one", I clik unzip, type in SE4 Gold, ok, nothing weird or strange happening, my anxiety beginns to subside, a sigh escapes my lips, "we are as one",
I clik & drag them to the SE4 Gold Shortcut, they go in ok, BUT, they are still on my desk top, oh oh, "we are one, we are one", ever so slowly I go back to the SE4 Folder, I inch my way down looking, looking, AEIIIIII , their not there, Mrs Mac comes, (bad timing), asks why I'm screaming and that I'll wake the granddaughter, I reply back, outcome, Mrs Mac is not currently talking to Mr Mac, she exits gracefully, I return my attention, "we are one", ya right. I desperatly search, finaly I find on the left screen after cliking the the + of MM folder, there they are, I go to the launcher, Excitment is profuse, there they are listed under none. A strange liquid begins to run down my inner leg, my mind is in a frenzy, excitment courses through my whole being, "the computer is my friend we are as one",
I clik on TD-Mod Pack, hit play SEIN, sit back and drool with anticipation, the computer is my friend we are as one", then... S..., NOTHING, I screwed it up again, d... computer, we are not one, the biggoted piece of metal, I furiously look around for something to increase the number of ventilation holes within its crusty, sarcastic, metal being, I know its laughing, haunting me, keeping me from a gamers high, and then like an exploding gas line, it hits me, IITTT KKnnoowws.. From its hidious Bios along its shiny slippery wiring to its inner Core, "It Knows", This is all a master sadistic plot of "Revenge". It knows about those like him that I met in combat in space, it knows how I glazed their ships and flayed them with Computer Viruses, It remembers how I captured and enslaved their planets minions. The frustration and disruption of my family life is all a stroke of a sick, warped and ingenious AI. I will get even, I will learn, I shall return and take the beasts smugness and shove it up its hard drive...For I am human and its Master, I shall persevere....Oh in between I'm going to have to but some roses for Mrs Mac, She still is not talking to me... sigh, what gamers go thru. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

mac5732:
To install the SEIV Mod Launcher, do this:
1) Open the zip file for it.
2) Make sure WinZip is in "Classic Mode", and not the stupid wizard.
3) Click on the Extract button. A window entitled "Extract" should appear.
4) Enter the folder where you installed SEIV Gold into the top field labeled "Extract To". Either type it in or use the mini-explorer where it says "Folders/drives" to locate the folder.
5) Make sure to extract the Mod Launcher into the same folder that SEIV.exe is in.
6) Click on the "Extract" button.
To install a mod, follow the above instructions from 1-4, then do this:
5) Look back into the main WinZip window under the column labeled Path. If there is a folder name there, then just click extract. It will create the proper folder for you. If there is no folder there, then type in the name of an appropriate folder (such as the name of the mod) after where it says "C:\Malfador\Space Empires IV Gold" (or whatever) in the "Extract to" field in the "Extract" window and then click the extract button.
Hope that helps you.

Basically, I am unlikely to get Gold for some time, possible a month. Rather than holding you all up, please feel free to start. Things have rapidly gone to hell in an handbasket around here. 1 by ally, I should qualify that by saying it is nice to obviously have a correspondlingly superior intellect to debate with on this board - it is too hard to find intellectual equals these days;
2 poisson a la greque is a reference to the cooking style dear boy, you are correct on the pomme frites, pureed petite pois means mushy peas in the colloquial - putting a french handle on everything has been the mainstay of the eclectic restaurant scene for aeons

Do not be worried, my troubles are not so bad. They are just transitory and poorly timed.
I asked Tesco about his cousin as I am freshly single. Unlike the good Gyphyn, I have not been entertaining most of the female population, I have been with just one for a few years.
I asked Mac for one of his two jobs as my current one is driving me mad. Not to rake up old issues, but I am supposed to be on leave and am doing lots of overtime instead.
I have to fly back to Canada for a dying relative, which won’t be fun. Perhaps I can swing a promotion and a raise out of it, but then again, I may not have the chutzpah of a certain forum member.
I have not been able to go Online properly for quite a few days, thus the Gold ordering problems.
I asked Tigga for the beer for what should be now obvious reasons.
So, as I say, these are transitory problems and I should be back in regular working service in a while. Heretical as it may seem, I will play some Quake as therapy. Sometimes SEVI requires a bit too much thought and Quake is suitably mindless. Thank you for your concern, I have not seen so many kind comments since Mac injured his wrist in the name of science.

Tigga,
The obvious reasons I asked you for a beer are that you are physically the closest to me (geographically, not the Shreck resemblance) and that you have already stated that you got a raise. I figure Mrs. GT gets 95% and you can buy me a beer with the other 5%. And I will take a pint, none of your half shandies.
I have been re-thinking my choice of empires. Playing the EEE could be rather entertaining and allow more room for humor than The High Lords of Sahali. And I could cuddle other races to death!
Growltigga
March 15th, 2002, 12:20 PM
Saxon, I would be delighted to drown you in beer if that is what you would like - Mrs GT earns a healthy sum in her own right (being a captain of industry as she keeps on telling me) and therefore she gets 100% of her cash, 75% of mine and I get to pay the mortgage out of the rest.
Probably explains why my backside is hanging out of my suit!
I do not want any element of Growltiggerness to get whomped in this game so I will either play Archdeacon Tiddles of the Cosmic Church of Universal Uncertainty or Fart Thunderquake of the Galactic All-Star Skiffle and Gastric Combo - ber scared, be very scared
Lastly, dont care who you play, you are not cuddling me

interesting to see if it works as I seem to recall there was some federal guidelines advocating compliance by US companies with the corporate governance reccomendations in our English Cadburey report but that just hit a mass of US ennui

"sideswipers"? If one checks the girth of the anatamy of a Duck, I would venture to say that this would pertain most profusly upon the feathery
type creatures more in regards to featherwipers.
Ole Gryphin, Tesco, PhoenixD, and Saxon where are you, warm up your plasma torps, gear up your induction centers, gather your creatures of the deep, for the challenge has been upgraded, I believe we have another player who indulges in the enjoyment of watching his ships being flayed, boiled, and flamed by those races of superior quality endurance. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
In regards to the game, It looks like Gold will be the Version of play, however, we'll have to wait until all of us get it and get used to it first, however, we could start a shorter Version if everyone wishes with 1.49 if everyone is willing? post your replys

Our brave host (once re-identified) has my vote to cull through the various suggestions for a galaxy and then set it up. If they could then post the results and tell people where to email thier .emp files, we would be in business.
Perhaps I should take Pigs in Space. Miss Piggy could be my fearless leader and Kermit the Frog the Lord of the Fleet. Swedish Chef would be the Minister of Industry and Beaker could lead my research program. Not sure what Gonzo would do.

we need everyone who wants to play to post, also what eveeryone agrees to, or we can just give generalization to Memphisto and let him seet it up.
Since I've never played PBW games, I would like direction as to what I have to do to get myself set up, I will go to the PBW site again and log in, at least thks to GEO I got that problem solved.

Ok, here is what I need from each of you for setup:
Create a new folder named after your race (please only one word if possible) and put in there all the pictures you want your race to use. By creating a folder for each of your races we can later change picture and AI files as we see fit. Trust me on this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Zip this folder and sent it to me at HeavyLoad@Gmx.de.
Load SE4, setup the race you would like to play and save this race to an emp file. Sent me this emp file, too. Make sure your password is set to “START” so I can access the emp files for setting up the game properly.
Include in your Email the password you want to use during the game. I will put in this one instead of “START” before beginning the game.
That’s it.
All of you now just have to tell me how your galaxy should look like: Ancient, normal, cluster, small, medium, large, random events on/off, tech level at start, planets at start ect..

Growtigga, in the garage is one of the lst places the cops will look, poor Mrs GT
I'm with GT, not all that computer literate, so the same goes for me, "ditto" as far as set up
Mephisto, since you were one of the beta testers, don't know if these are bugs or what.
Gold Version, Original, no mods, set up mines fields up in the game, one wp had 80+, Piounda, spelling is off, came in and swept the fields. When I later fought the ships and cked the designs, nowhere on them were sweeping componets,
example the 80+ mines took out 1 out of 5 ships, no damage to others.
2nd, when I went and cliked on my planet weapons to split them up, I cliked off some and left rest on, when I fired they all fired at the same target at the same time. Wasn't able to split them up. Bug??
GT, 48hr turn around ok with me,

First, greetings to you all. I hope this post finds you all well, able and fit. I also hope that life is treating you kindly and that whatever your problems may be, they are minor and easably solvable.
Secondly, I am completely easy on any option for the game. The only thing is I have only ever played on a 1 planet start up, low tech, low racial points, low alien races, no neutrals, large galaxy and grid/cluster type- if we use anything other than this, please anticipate and be kind on the learning curve.
Thirdly, I am definately up for this game, although I cannot start this week, or maybe not next due to work commitments and the fact that I think I am going insane. It also depends on how long before the police find Mrs GT's body buried under the garage. Can we have a 48 hour turn-turnaround?
Fourthly - I have not ordered Gold yet and dont anticipate being able to for another month or so. I completely endorse the idea that we play on 1.49 until 30 days after the Last team player announces they have gold. I dont think this will be a problem from my point of view as I severely doubt that I will still be alive and in the game within 30 days.
Fifthly, keep in mind everyone that it is not kind to gang up on one inexperienced player, however much you envy him or whatever, and beat them into a pulp.
Sixthly, Mephisto, you must treat me as a complete computer virgin - can I have a step by step guide of HOW I create files, move files over and then send them to you etc
Cheers all
Saxon
March 19th, 2002, 10:02 AM
Tigga,
Sorry for what ever has put you so out of sorts. It was a bit of a shock to the system seeing you choosing such gentle and polite words. In any case, once they find the body in the garage and you are single and on the run, do come visit. The cops are easy to bribe and I am compiling a data base of eligible women. Just be sure to pick up a bottle or three on the way through duty free. Seriously, I do hope things smooth out for you.
You should not worry about being killed in the first month. Multiplayer games take a long time. Running 48 hour turns, you can expect only 15 turns in the first month and only the most homicidal, and lucky, empire could kill another that fast. No, it will be a much more extended ravaging of your empire, Lasting several months. On the other hand, I only learned you have to turn cloaking on the other day, so do not feel you are alone in the newbie world.

What I do is get the files emailed to me at work, they are pretty small. I then copy them to a floppy and carry them home. There, I run the turn in the comfort of my home, being served G&T Sundowners and having my toenails polished. Once I finish my turn, I copy the new file to the floppy and carry it to work. I then post it to my friends and they do their turns and we start all over again.
If you have an uptight IT manager, you can delete all the old files every few weeks, as they do build up over time.
Regarding the set up, I am game for what ever works. I agree low events, as they take some of the fun out of things.

What about a CD burner? If you had a rewriteable at work, you could use that instead. However, I would be surprised if you had one easily available, they are not exactly desk top standard in most offices. Your other option is to by a floppy drive, it should be about 10 quid, and then install it. If nothing else, your adventures in the interior of your PC would make good reading for the rest of us.
Still, I don’t think it will be too big of a problem to use the modem. I just checked the .gam file for a PBEM game I have going and it is .3 of a meg. It keeps getting a bit bigger each time, but that is the size after about 5 or 6 months.

Dear old Gryphin (emphasising the "old" in that sentence)
As to who is buried under the garage floor, may I quote the great bard on that on 'chop, chop, chop - I am an engine of destruction!' - I have been taking some practical advice from Mac on this.
As to my memory being lacksadaisical, who are you? you should understand that everytime I open my eyes, I see a bright new world!
You should also expect that when one realises that they play SEIV as if it were a great space opera, can thrash the AI on any setting, but then comes across the cold understanding that any human player is going to beat them, dissemination and subterfuge become your only weapons
Put it this way, even my cats are able to beat me on SEIV

Of Space Empires and Being Single Again
Filled with sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I have to admit that the time spent playing SE III, (20 plus hours a week), was more a symptom than a cause of what lead gettting ditched by my X. Still it was a very important symptom and if you find yourself doing it, definatly look around and find out why. I am very serious here. Maybe if someone had hit me over the head with the evidence I would still be married and would not have spent the Last 3 years in emotional H***.
That said, I now have a sweetheart that, (among other things), wants to learn Space Empires and will be a formidable opponent.

I've been real busy at work, so I havn't had time to get on the forum or even play SE4 Gold at home, been putting in a good amt of overtime, hopfully, I should be caught up early this week.
GT after this past week, I intend to indulge myself with a quanity of brewskis here within the catina and to contemplate upon the universe according to the Tka-chik empire. As well as doing some off the cuff research into "Moose Kissing" and what the rewards of this phenomina might one indulge within his/her precepts of life.
Further, is this regulated to only one specific country or more reknown within the scope of the known world at large, and to what extent, could there be an epidemic of this strange custom out there somewhere? I shall conduct some scientific research into this new are and report my findings on this thread after close study.

Hi Mac,
I saw your bug report. There could be several reasons for this. For example the minesweeper could have entered and then left again or one of the ships had a very big component that sucked in all the damage from the small mines without being destroyed.
Regarding connections: 2 friend of mine in my PBEM games are on 56K modems and it is no problem at all. The files I send you tend to be 500kb big, the files you send me are usually around 20kb. Remember, download time is not the limiting factor in a 48 hours game. We are not playing Counter Strike. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Moose kissing is sure to be practiced in Finland, but is probably spiced up with the odd reindeer thrown in for spice. Here in Kenya, the animal of choice is the Gnu, also known as the Bewilderedbeast. I understand that in England, there is a shortage of large animals, so a lot of cat kissing goes on. This may have something to do with repeated losses of SEIV games by some forum members.

In addition to the debugging, I need to know whether things make sense, and what needs more explaining.
The mod is so very different from standard SE4, that it is impossible to mod AIs for it. You could play "vs self", and I will probably start a PBW game for testing.
I think I might even make a tutorial for the mod.

No-one in England kisses cats as cats are far too cool and collected in indulge in anything so sordid as that.
The reason they keep on beating me at SEIV is just down to pure ability, mine being non-existent and theirs being paramount - believe me, until you have had one of your warp points breached by a swarm of whiskas class light cruisers and purina trout'n'salmon nibble class battlecruisers, you dont know what fear really is!

you have to remeber that the little darlings dont just purr when being cuddled or sitting in your lap, they may be happy whilst savaging small furry rodents, chucking up on your nice maple floor or sitting on the bird table with a peanut on their nose and their mouths wide open

For some reason, my memory is suggesting that Rush may have stolen that from someone else. Blake seems to ring a bell. I will have a look when I get home. Any English majors, as opposed to English lawyers, out there to help?
As for the reek of testosterone, I must get a bit off topic. This thread is normally quite disciplined about staying on topic, but I shall digress. A couple of months ago I went to the Mr. Kenya Bodybuilding Championship. Towards the end of the night, it was getting really warm in the auditorium and you truly could smell the testosterone. The crowd was 85% men and everyone was going mad, jumping and shouting. It reminded me of seeing some of the big metal bands in the 90’s, the whole atmosphere was like a Ministry concert. As much as we try, I do not think we will quite reach that level of testosterone.

Sometimes I wonder what you are thinking. I was obviously at the muscleman show looking for big bruisers to keep my staff in line. I figure a ratio of three enforcers to each staff member will focus the workers on their duties. Naturally, when things get out of line, you lose a few people and need to get replacements.
If you want to get very odd, put a Rush CD in your CD drive while playing SEIV. You will find that it takes different tracks at different times of the game. Think of the different music in the game and then drop in random tracks from your favorite Rush album. One guy claims that the game runs faster if you put in Tubular Bells, Mike Oldfeild, I think. Very old thread in the forum.

As for Testrone levels, believe me, at my age ANY testrone level is quite an experience to have http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
GT, then "Moose Kissing" is a Canadian only concept?? What about the "Kenya Gnu Smooching"? My, my, so many new and different directions for research, sigh, I don't know if I'll ever catch up, just researching "Circle the Wagons" and The Gryphin Position" takes up so much time let alone the injuries to ones wrist while cking the various aahh, eerrr, scientific sites found on the net.
BY all means, everyone who reads this thread is more then welcome to drop in, have a brewski or two and enjoy yourselves and post whatever you would like (within reason).
Also in regards to the Cantina serving Wenches, I'm afraid they are hired by Growltigga and The Gryphin, so we are at their mercy in this area of enjoyment, however I have already let them be aware of what I enjoy in this far reaching regard when it comes to the bouncing activities of the serving employees, and if you check out earlier in the G&G thread you would see that GT has much experience at sipping toddies and enjoying the finer aspects of oooggglinng world wide, and as for the Gryphin, the man attracts them like fleas on a cat http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif so I would say I don't think we have any wilderbeasts here, BUT, then again one never knows

How did my un-mentionables get brought into this discussion??, Ya know, I was wondering why all of a sudden some of them disappeared, I always thought my wife took them out to the landfill and burned or buried them, or, I was getting senile and just forgot where I dropped them, hmmmm, have to change to locks on my doors.
Serious note: Saxon I believe is traveling this week and next if I remember right, He should be somewhere in Canada, We might have to wait until we hear from him before we start. Other then that I think everyone else is ready, If not please let us know, so we can plan and get ready

GT, my mother-in-law has all the recipes that were posted, she hasn't tried them yet, but she said she is going to, also gave Tesco's and Puke's recipe to friend of ours, she & her husband plan on using them for cook out season.
PS. Tesco, never got the sauce,

Gryphin, thank you for providing far more information than any of us really wanted!!
count yourself lucky, the one free day from work I had over Easter was spend sticking flashboard over the holes in my garage roof - I would frankly be happier de-fluffing my naval with a hoover.
On a serious note, we are about to commence this international intergalactic interdimensional challenge are we not?

Yep, I fly out Friday night and will be back the 15th. Would it help if I got my act together and sent Mephisto my race info now? The Killer Easter Bunnies from Hell is my latest thought on a species.

Tesco, Growltigga and Gryphin conversing as usual, Saxon enroute to Moose Kissing Country, I finaly beat the metal monster and was able to download the mods of the gold cd, embarrasing myself as usual, everyone getting ready for the galactic showdown, we need to know if your friends are going to join in, Mephisto as been kind enough to host, so later this or early next week we'll all have to discuss the final setup for the game, Oh and lock your doors at home, there is a rumor that someone or something is removing ones unmentionables from the premisis,
weird huh, as you can see, just the usual goings on http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Gee, all this concern about the kissing of moose. Given the looks of some of the ladies in Ohio (Mac’s wife is from out of state) I am surprised that there is not more of this kind of activity going on.
I had hoped to stop in London and see if Shreck really looks like Shreck, but unfortunately he lives about a million miles from where I though he did, so that will not be possible. Instead, I will ask him to confirm a rumour that I have been told. Is it true that I can get a pint at 5 AM on Cowcross St.? There is said to be some legislative error that allows them to serve very early in the day.
Oh, on a different note, I must crow. I am in a three way PBEM game with some friends and have just scored a major victory. Something about having waited nine months to get to this point really adds to the pleasure. That said, I must reiterate that AI races should be left out of our game, they do make things unequal. I get the EEE as neighbors, you get the Rage, hmm, who has it easier?

Some go set up the game in PBW and drop a line here saying what game it is. Then we can go join it.
And set a milestone on the start date.
I will adjust accordingly to the rules.

Cowcross Street? that is behind the Savoy Hotel isn't it? I recall that there used to be some daft provision for bankruptees in the 1800's that meant they could be arrested and thrown into debtors' jail if caught anywhere in England, except for around the Savoy Hotel which was technically, part of the Duchy of Savoy and therefore had extraterritoriality - that may be why this bar can serve alochol so late/early (depending on your point of view) but I have never been and dont know.
I would say that if you need a pint that badly at 5 am then 2 things spring to mind
1 you have not roistered enough that night if you still need alcohol at that time of the morning - me, I am normally curled up in a gutter cuddling a kebab and dribbling by 11.30pm or
2 you are starting way too early
I would be interested to know how you get on and how many Moose you 'make it with' (is that the correct American phrase?) whilst you are in BC
