Bandar Log, it seems, has to bear the brunt of coming winter. Our capitol's temperature has dropped to average temperatures! You must understand how embarrassing this is to the nation of pantless Apes accustomed to warmer climates.

Other than that, our relations are warm and comfy and we don't understand the hurry of others to burn and pillage. They must be compensating their forthcoming impotence in advance or something.

Yeah, but you're nice and hairy. Or are you worried about shrinkage? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

I'm sad I missed all of the hullabaloo..... I take personal offense to the referencing of fascist military dictatorships violently oppressing their people.

In other news, the weather in Gath is..... well, violently oppressive. The people fear their cruel masters, and the possibility that they will return to their flesh feasting ways. I try to guide them, so that one day they will be once again comfortable having public competitions of wit and strategy. Hopefully when this goal is achieved, they will be so grateful to have such wonders, that they will remain respectful of all those responsible for the gift, and act responsibly so as to honor the other competitors, rather than only thinking of themselves before, during, or after the game.

It is a simple dream I have for my people. Is it so wrong that I consider it so noble an aspiration?

I just turned off quickhost to guarantee that the full 24 hours elapses between turns. Quickhost will be turned back on when we go to 48 houra at turn 18.

huh?? if quickhost is set to 24h, the full 24 hours will elapse so i dont see why the next turn has to be delayed.

EDIT: ok, i somehow read that the turn would be delayed. and not just quickhost disabled.

btw. with 60 players, there will anyway someone stale every turn and the change would not have been necessary.

June 15th, 2008, 06:25 PM
I think it's so that the time of day host occurs is consistent, instead of creeping backwards if players complete the turn before 24h. I'm in favor of it. I like knowing when, exactly, host will occur, barring technical problems.

Aezeal
June 15th, 2008, 06:32 PM
No quickhost makes the game host sooner if all players have played their turn.
Quickhost 24 hours means it will host when
a. all player have played their turn OR
b. 24 hours have passed

Hadrian_II

It was requested by a player who wants to do his turn early, but does not want to run the risk, however slight, that the turn will host sooner than 24 hours.

Zeldor
June 15th, 2008, 06:46 PM
But that makes no sense? He still has 24 hours to do the turn...

Tichy
June 15th, 2008, 06:49 PM
If he mails in the turn and *then* wants to make changes to it, he runs the risk of the turn hosting prior to the full 24h, which it will do if everyone else submits theirs, because it sees his turn has been submitted.

I do not think poor Pythium cheated. After all Dr P has his capital under siege. Most likely Pythium sympathizers sent him gold. That message is typically wrong.

Lastly, I think it would be risky to try anything "funny" on Llamaserver, because llamabeast could, if prompted, peek at your turn file.

I did cancel 2 units in my recruitment queue: the weird part is that I got this bug only once and it was the time when I try to use the kingmaker mod before the start of the real game.

On a side note: I regret that my english vocabular is so poor, I could have a lot to say to la man who decide to attack me as soon as he saw that my capital is under siege http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

Yes, that's right! As a special treat, I have opened the Bank of Ulm a turn early, with 500 gold, 4 air gems, 3 water gems, 4 death gems, and 9 earth gems. For those of you who haven't heard the news, I'll post the (finalized) summary of the Bank of Ulm and its workings, in italics just in case any of you are denser than blacksteel armor.

The Bank of Ulm is an entity which people can loan money or gems to and from. Those loaning to the BoU may gain money at a n interest but may only withdraw their money or gems after 12 turns. Those taking loans from the Bank must pay it back at an interest. The exact numbers are as follows:

Gold:
1% interest rate, compounded, on loans to Ulm
3% interest rate, compounded, on loans from Ulm
Gems:
10% interest rate on loans from Ulm of 1-9 gems
6.5% interest rate on loans from Ulm of 10-39 gems and to Ulm of 1-9 gems
4% interest rate on loans from Ulm of 40-99 gems and to Ulm of 10-39 gems
2% interest rate on loans from Ulm of 100+ gems and to Ulm of 40-99 gems
1% interest on loans to Ulm of 100+ gems

Additionally, for 100+50g-per-turn-after-opening and 1+.5gems-of-any-type-per-turn-after-opening, or an adequate item, any nation can become a Favored Customer of Ulm, recieving the following benefits:
Only 1/2 of the gold sum is compounded, the other half is non-compounded
A 7.5% interest rate on gems, instead of 10%
A 10% discount on all items forged by MA Ulm

Finally, search for diversity, search for a cheap option, search for Ulm!

One final note: Please move all offers to take or give loans to the Megagame Bank thread.

The drums have started. Thumping ever louder, they can be heard through the hills. They can be heard below the waves. Cave walls shake and smallfolk cower. The reavers from Oceana are coming, blood and steel mark the rising of the sun.

Too long have we Capricorns suffered the oppressive yoke of the Triton Kings. Too often have our reavers been censored for taking our birthright from the soft surface dwellers. No more, we say. The time of the Tritons is passed and the nation of MA Oceana lay claim to all to which we are entitled. Starting with the throne of Oceana and ending with the ascension of the new god.

The protection of the Triton Kings no longer applies and all who dwell on the coast are now subject to the law of the sea. By blood and steel we will take what is ours, those too weak or cowardly to hold in the old way may appease reavers by holding gifts high and avoiding eye contact.

The new era has begun, and the tide is rising.

So do I. ^^
The bad thing for my triton boys is that those foolish Aboleths just broke the NAP3 we signed 1 turn ago and ally themselves with the silly Caprithings. Considering the fact that they will have to wait 3 turns before attacking me, that Caprithings already took several provinces of mine and that my army if far superior to R'lyeh soft meat, thus impeding them a fast offensive, just guess
- who will take a heavy number of my provinces and who will collect crumbs
- who will eat the other one after I'll be finished http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

That said, I keep some hope in my sacred fellows and we will see how expensive they can make that invasion.
BTW, if any kind hearted people wanted to help my soldiers to fight for Universal Justice and Freedom, we will gladly accept gems, money, allies, whisky and hot babes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Just send your gifts to EA Oceania, we won't forget.

Baalz
June 17th, 2008, 12:24 PM
Bah, there are no lack of enemies in Kingmaker that we need to make more out of our friends, and none can claim we have ever dealt unfairly with them. We take issue with your description of our ally's having broken a NAP with you - indeed despite our urgency in negotiations they insisted that they could not attack for 3 more months despite the inevitable difficulties this will cause. They did sense the changing of the tide however. Your attempt to sow discourse is hollow, for I invite all Kingmaker to observe how MA Oceana deals with their allies once the Triton Kings are slaughtered. I also invite all of Kingmaker to observe how we deal with our enemies, and offer appropriate tribute when reavers appear on your shore.

Amhazair
June 17th, 2008, 02:43 PM
While far removed from the tumultuous happenings under the waves we offer our best wishes to our cousins, the Capricorns of MA Oceania. Of all the creatures of the sea their outlook on life is most similar to ours, even though they do retain the naive optimism about the future we shared in our earlier days, but that has been largely abandoned now in the gloomy forests of LA Pangaea.

Ormund the mighty Utgard giant had faced fierce blizzard dragons and ice trolls and slain hundreds of foes until the Arcos lass with the funny face tried to seduce him one night by the campfire. Her ways of love were too foreign for Ormund, who was used to women with more meat, more hair, and more “fragrance” and much less talk. Yap, yap yap - all night she spoke in flowery prose and her ballads of love confused Ormund, giving him a pounding headache. So when he grunted for the woman to be silent, she unleashed a series of bolts from the sky. Zap after zap, poor Ormund tried to dodge the uncannily accurate lightning, each bolt causing his warrior braids to stand upright in a smoky haze. He managed at last to strike the fey temptress down, but not before she stole his manhood (Battle Fright -5).

If you should meet Ormund, he will likely run away, but beware, every now and then if you talk too much it sets him off to morale 99. /threads/images/Graemlins/icon19.gif

Isimede, the Sibyl, divines this future for Set, leader of LA Ctis. Unlike the Astrologers, we do not rely on the stars. From whence our knowledge comes, none may know:

Set, God of the Desert, Head of a Beast, you will fall but shall rise again:

In one of your neighbors you must place your trust if you are to survive. If you do not another will destroy you, and this enemy cannot be defeated by LA Ctis alone.

Be very careful on how you rely on your Sauromancers in battle, as the passing ages have taken their toll. Fatigue makes cowards of us all, and death follows fatigue as surely as dark follows night.

When the Moon bleeds red, the time to act will have passed. If your ally is not in place, Set will meet his Doom, from which he will not rise.

The Glorious Nation of Kailasa has to make a sad announcement. The Nation of Hinnom has fallen and will soon be forgotten from the lands of Kingmaker.

Our Gurus have seen it in the Stars.

The Yavanas have shed a tear for them.

The Bandar are sharpening their swords.

The Atavi will shoot them in the back.

The Markata think that chariots are a sad excuse for an elephant.

Do you guys never sleep?

Just woke up. There really is nothing here that merits anything more than a pm to me. Heh.

It is coobe's race, and it should be returned to him. But when you post that you are looking for a permanent sub, and one is found, you can assume he will be put in your place without any further ado.

In this case, I am glad things worked out for Coobe, and you never even missed a turn. Your sub was gracious, and understood. So there are no issues.

But just for future notice, when you post for a permanent sub you are, for whatever reason, getting out of the game. We are on a fast schedule right now. So I will generally, when such a sub is found, plug him into the position so he can begin to get acquainted with his race. There is no reason not to.

But all is well that ends well, and we should thank jimkehn for being willing to take over on short notice.

The younger civilization of Arcoscephale has not called upon the older for vengeance. However, the sybils all seeing eyes know who is behind the destruction of the Golden Age. And though they like to call themselves giants, they squash just as easily under an elephant's hoof as any other.

After a communion, the giants will forget that they ever served anyone other than Ruin and merrily hum as they plow our fields:

We can plow a field all day long
cut down trees from dusk to dawn
We serve our master Ruin as we must
working so hard just to get a crust.

The nations of Arcos spend too much time in their libraries reading treatises on war written by frail sages who witnessed the hardened warriors of the north slaughter their golden curly haired soldiers, whose only reason for joining the legions was to impress some lass. You should spend your days trying to establish a preserve for your precious elephants for they have become a staple in the Utgardian diet.

MA Mictlan has received a message from MA Vanheim. Not only were the proper protocols (Ambassadorial rules and regulations: International Politics Edition 3, page18, section 4a) not followed, nor was it sent through the correct, official channels(Ambassadorial rules and regulations volume 4, pages 9-27) for these actions, but our quite reasonable 300 gold compensation for a swamp and peace (established as proper and reasonable as per Thor v. Goats, 74 BFE*) was rejected outright as 'insulting' to the honor of the vans and werewolves.

In response to this unforeseen development, the nation of MA Mictlan has formed a new committee to deal with the matter, consisting of a significant number of jaguar and eagle warriors. This committee, thank goodness, was formed in accordance with ancient tradition rather than by the concepts brought by our new deity.

I did two test games with Hinnom in SP. The first game, I had a heavy dual bless and expanded exponentially, it was crazy (really awful research). The second game, I dropped the bless to get really awesome scales, and expanded with chariots - at a rate similar to what I got with giants. So the interesting part is that the sacreds are VERY thuggable, but if you want to shoot for Blood Summons as early as possible, the chariots are the way to go. People expand and conquer quite well with ele/mammoths, the chariots are far superior. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Quietly travelling in the forests, trampling barbarians and deer tribes the armies of ME Arcocephale have made a strange discovery : a fortified city looking like it may be the center of a foreign civilization.

Long debates have opposed astrologers and priestesses about the nature of the strange red haired people inhabiting the city, and why they didn't even bothered to attack the poorly defended provinces owned by deer and lion tribes in the immediate neighbourhood of their capitol.

Some advanced it could have been a civilization so advanced they even concluded non agression pacts with tribesmen. Others considered these red haired guys should be barbarian themselves to coexist peacefully with deer and lion tribes.

As the only reaction of the strange people to the arrival of a dozen of elephants in the neighbourhood of their capitol was to send a big army of quasi naked guys leaded by what looked like their shamans to defend it, the final conclusion was they should be some kind of savage tribe themselves, the duty of Arcocephale being of course to free them from the rule of their primitive customs and allow them to discover the joys of art, philosophy, extermination of primitives and sex between young men.

It was finally good news as the peaceful people of Arcocephale were blocked by non agression pacts with their speaking neighbours in all other directions.

Speed: 24 hours per host for the first 18 turns moving to 48 hours per host until around turn 70+ in which it moves to 72.

This speed was also used for the 1st Big Game, which I thought moved at a pretty good pace. Remember, this game will only break here and there for holidays, it will not break for individual personal issues of various players, who will have to find subs.

I am unaware of any major holidays after July 4th until Thanksgiving, except maybe Labor Day. But given the world wide participation in this game, I am open to suggestions and certainly will not make fun of any holiday suggestions-however obscure they may seem to us Americans.

Rule number 1. roommates may have as many overnight "guests" as they please, but they shall not become permanent fixtures around the apartment, and certainly will not begin to bring their "baggage" irons and such with them for their overnight visits.

Rule Number 2. roommates shall not drink any cold beer in the Fridge that is not their own without the express permission of said owner. Nothing worse than arriving home after a hard day's work, thinking about nothing but getting home and having an ice cold beer, then opening the front door and seeing a lot of empty beer cans on the living room floor. You're right Xietor, I don't own an iron, it was indeed a pesky housemate. If I have anything to do with it they won't own an iron either now, being as it turns off everything in the house when it's plugged in.

I was considering an alliance (as far as an alliance could go when neither member knows where the other is) with Utgard, but this might hurt that idea. You see, the MA Ulmish are quite meaty (though also tough, and possibly crunchy since many live almost their entire lives with armor on). Who wants an ally prone to eating your warriors? Not MA Ulm, at least.

Well, at least Utgard isn't Hinnom, whose Rephaim have a nasty reputation for just popping people into their mouths, clothes and all. No offense to Hinnom, of course; the Rephaim are otherwise quite nice fellows, once you get past their habit of gruesome and horrible feasts on humans, some of whom are sometimes still living. So, at least, I've heard.

Well that's the thing, no one complained. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (I personally actually care more for such observations, than other arbitrary "holidays", but meh)

Unfortunately for the rest of the world though, the 4th of July is a really big deal in the US. We have to take the chance to celebrate ending the oppression of our British masters, so that we could turn our attention back to oppressing the original inhabitants of this wondrous continent.

So now I guess we're kind of conflicted about the whole thing..... Instead of just throwing a party, we feel compelled to blow things up. My therapist says we were traumatized, and until we understand our buried feelings for our abusive father, we'll continue to take out our aggressions on less advantaged nations. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

To me personally the 4th is much more than our freedom from the British, who I now view as our closest friend.

The 4th stands to as a monument to the Rule of Law, where the individual has the right to life, liberty, and property, that cannot be deprived without due process of law. And that right is one the United States has tried to safeguard for all humans. We opposed Nazi oppression and South Africa's former regime, to name a couple of worthy causes.

Obviously the United States has not been perfect in its pursuit of this goal(thanks George W Bush), but we have over the course of our history done much to further human rights worldwide. At least i like to think so. And it is in this spirit that we celebrate the 4th of July.

At the first gleam of sunlight, the small Utgardian army saw the horrible legion across the valley while the steady pounding of war drums shook the damp earth. Over 500 strong, the Ermorian ranks were filled with disciplined legionnaires outfitted in gleaming silver armor, the purple flags with grinning skull-emblazoned standards flapping in the chill morning wind. Barack, supreme warlord of the Utgardian horde, felt his heart skip as he peered closer at the shadowy ranks. Skeletal knights clad in rotting armor with wicked scythes and notched swords were positioned on the flanks. And in the Ermorian rearguard, an entire cadre of necromantic sorcerers chanting their fell craft. When the battle let loose the Ermorian mages channelled their power and let loose an endless sequence of spells designed to ensnare the Utgardian woodsmen in the lure of Ermor’s false god. But in the darkest hour of doubt, the independent spirit and berserk battlelust of the horde could not be overcome and Utgard saw Ermor for what it was, the rotting pile of books of another dying civilization. /threads/images/Graemlins/icon19.gif

Werent EA nations the crushed ones? At least LA Ermor, Rlyeh and Pangaea where around in the end of the game. From MA there where Pangaea, Ctis and Agartha while from EA just Pangaea was around.

If i remember correcty, the problem was that the weak troops of the EA Nations let them crumble in the early game before they are able to get a benefit from their magical superiority. That Pangaea was the only EA nation to survive does almost prove that point, as Centaurs are very good at going head to head with an enemy army.

That is what we call revisionist history.

LA Pan was crushed in the first Big Game by MA Van. LA Pan survived because velusion saved them and they became a vassal to LA Ermor. Of course LA Ermor and LA Ryleh were the notable exceptions to the rule in the 1st Big Game.

I am not talking about the very end end. EA Lanka, Mictlan,
Pangaea and other races from the early era well did well into the midgame. If you check the other game thread, I think you will see many were surprised that the LA nations fared so poorly.

Both LA and EA did not do so good, from EA just Pan was around and from LA pan, ermor and rlyeh were around. While from MA Pangaea, Ctis, Agartha and i think Ermor, Machaka and Pythium were in fighting shape. So both EA and LA did not do very well. Well,

you have to take the endgame with a grain of salt. EA Oceania was a major power, but got double teamed by la ermor and la ryleh. I mean no nation could withstand that.

Then Baalz, as la mictlan got special attention from la ryleh, who by that time was wishing 5 times per turn. again, what nation could withstand that?

So I think it is a mistake to look at the endgame to see how the nations fared. Any nation singled out by la ryleh or la ermor(and his unholy alliance) was likely not long for the world. Except of course, the resilient Lizards.

by reporter Orangescrags Grapesquiggle

This just in! In a bizarre twist of fate, MA Ulm has attacked a nation known traditionally as the attacker, LA Mictlan. We are told that MA Ulm was helping its serpentine allies in C'tissians of various ages. Anonymous, the Mouth of Monny, has called C'tissians "trusted allies - especially my little Serpent Dancer here"; EA C'tis has not told reporters about how the Serpent Dancer came to Ulm.

The battle involved roughly eighty Ulmish and twenty-five Mictlani lead by the Hell-King of Mictlan, a Moloch, and his personal retinue of unholy hellspawn. The Black Acolyte attending the battle, known as "Alarik", reported being "surprised that I was actually useful; I just expected to, y'know, sit there and bless the Smiths or somethin'". The Mictlani Jaguar Warriors were easily dispatched by the Guardians of MA Ulm; however, the Moloch simply flew towards the Guardians while they were defeating his revered and legendary force and struck back. One of the Smiths, called Anonymous, reported feeling that the Moloch (whose name is unknown; the Mictlani language was too primitive ("oog oog tudd" was one Guardian's rendition of their speech) to understand) was "f9b4ohgodohgodPLEASEHELPMETHENIGHTMAARES". What this means is currently unknown; what is known is that three of the horrifyingly ugly Toad-Priests of LA Mictlan (a strange offshoot from the Atlantians) were present at the battle.

As for the battle itself, much of it consisted of archer volleys and Magma Bolts fired at the pathetically weak Jaguar Warriors and a desperate attempt to even hurt the Moloch. Though the Guardians fled early into the battle after wiping out the last remnants of the Jaguar Warriors, the Black Knights stayed until the very last fell, valiantly attacking the Hell-King of Mictlan and smiting his retinue. The Smiths' Magma Bolts, though they destroyed the Jaguar Warriors, did nothing to harm the absurdly lucky Moloch. In the end, after the last of the Black Knights Fell, the Smiths decided that Monny was better served alive and ran for the hills to join the Guardians and archers.

The Black Knights who gave their lives have been declared holy, and those remains not eaten by the Moloch were cremated in the Forges of Ulm to give strength to those who need it most - those on the frontline, defending their family, their friends, and their country.

Every hunting squad in the Holy Hunting Ground of Lanka has got an order to search for the signs that could reveal the place of resting of our beloved and fearsome god. Prim, Guardian of Existence is slowly coming out of his eons-long dormancy. Lanka will greet its god suitably.
No surprise that invading force of Pytium found only markata cleaners and bandar grave diggers to protect the land.
Last month however, the odds changed. Renegade Sybil wandering through the land has been captured. During the ritual feast, being slowly consumed she went into prophetic trance and gave us the answer. "The rotting head of Krynos, ruler of Pytium and false pretender, impaled on an oak stick eleven days after his decapitation will speak the words you so much desire" - said the mysterious woman before drawing her last breath.
Great search ended successfully. Great hunting begins.

I am off for Vacation. Llamabeast is now the official Game admin. until I get back and resume. Hopefully Tuidjy will do better at processing my war than I have done.

Since I only play the MA I learn painful new lessons every turn(: But my sub claims to be love LA Arcos. so we shall what he can do.

Good luck everyone.

Be back on the 9th of July!

Hmm... the holiday break is already after that turn? Or after 22nd?

the official holiday is the 4th, 5th, and 6st. But I am leaving on July 2nd.

I relinquished my administrative duties a day early, as I am busy packing etc. So all game admin. requests please direct to llamabeast such as subs etc.

Okay, so... the current turn is due in on the 3rd. The holiday is on the 4th, 5th and 6th apparently. So I guess I will postpone for 48 hours after the next hosting meaning the turn will be in on the 7th rather than the 5th. Actually maybe I should postpone by 60 hours just to make sure everyone has time. The turn'll then be due in around 7pm GMT on the 7th. Does that sound okay?

(Note that this doesn't relate to the current turn. The current turn is still in around 7am GMT on the 3rd. I don't want to cause any confusion.)

A full week, nice! Have fun in the woods, or whatever you're doing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif You don't have to be shy to tell us that it's a Dom3 LARP trip. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

It seems Eriu not only launched a dastardly surprise attack on Utgard in the midst of our negotiations, but while viewing his heineous actions this morning, my video card died. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Talk about a double kick in the nuts.

Anyway, Utgard will be scrambling to get our turn done on the work laptop which means lots of Alt-tabbing and sneaky peeks over the shoulder. Any nations sympathizing with our plight and worried about your own video cards, feel free to attack the nasty Eriu.

Our intelligence points to Xietor's vacation as a distraction to let the Eriu get in place for this en masse sneak attack.

Gath feels bad even if we have no idea where you are, we shall send pie. Bloo.... BLUEberry pie, rather. Everyone likes blueberries.

Gath should pay more attention to propel intel - after all it's Utgård who's currently invading your neighbour's neighbour's neighbour. In a map like this, it's not even far!

Too bad about the second kick in the nuts, hopefully the card is replaceable.

Regarding recent intel about the importance of Krynos' head to Lanka, LA Pythium has decided to move his head to a safe location. We shall have to move his body along with it, since it does not function correctly without it's head.

Ashdod would like to thank EA Caelum for the bumper harvest of mammoth-burgers they just delivered. They were yummy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yeaz holy Batman, that was quite a fight Utgård just lost. Giants losing steam of late?

In other news, Bandar Log is still living in peaceful coexistence with nature. Which may not surprise anyone paying attention.

(And plz someone play MA Man's turn this time so quickhost would even be an option)

We were so close to squashing those Apostacy-spamming grand Thaumaturgs. I think the battle might have gone the other way had Barack Obama not forgotten to move my newly arrived reinforcements to the front lines (lack of real-world military experience?). Doh...

Anyway, well-fought battle Ermor! Back to the drawing board.

P.S.If anyone thinks that Eye Shields rarely blind people should take a look at my turn. One Sidhe with defense 24 vs. PD 20+ in my capital. Sidhe is surrounded on all sides by 10 Attack Huskarl, 3 per square. Midway into the fight I checked and all of them adjacent to the Sidhe were blinded (probably 15+ blind huskarls). He also took out one eye of the Jotun jarl with MR 15 that finally took him down. Can't remember if MR helps vs Eye Shield.

Okay, I've got EA Agartha's number now.

I believe I just killed his God outside of his dominion, even.

Kudos to him for being so fierce! If I'd known he'd put up this kind of resistance, I would've tried to make him an ally. Ah well, live and learn.
