Default Map Editor Crash

when I try to load a .tga (.rgb) into the map editor, I get

Ngot gick fel!
myloadmalloc: . was empty
Ngot gick fel!
myloadmalloc: . was empty

on the console. So I cannot create a new .map file for e.g. the kingmaker megaage game map. The really old cimmeria.tga (750 x 550) was small enough to pass the malloc hurdle.

I'm running Dom3.17 on debian lenny (Linux 2.6.25).

Loading the old europa.tga (800 x 600) fails. Otoh, a slightly enlarged cimmeria.tga (800 x 587) does not crash, but the neighbour finding algorithm produces nonsense.

I can load all tga/rgb files using a dummy .map file - but that way I don't trigger the neighbour finding algorithm.

BTW, thanks for the great game.

You must select 'new map' not 'load map' when you want to start from a tga file. Don't mind the neighbour finding, it requires special circumstance to work, like fullmoon and the 13th and so on.

To confirm what Johan said, the guess neighbors things is going to cause more headaches than it solves. Just assign all neighbors manually, it's much faster and more reliable.

In any case, thanks for this thread guys, the next version of the new mapmaking manual is going to have this bit in the troubleshooting section.
