What's wrong with RAR? It's not like it is a new format that just popped up within the last five years. For Linux there are unpackers for command line (like, uh, rar) and your GUI of choice (like Ark for KDE), too.

Re: MAPS: Edi\'s Map Projects
I tend to growl at RARs also. And BZ2, CAB, ACE, 7Z, even TAR. We might as well face it. If you arent ZIPing then prepare for the growls.

Re: MAPS: Edi\'s Map Projects
Great job Edi!
Have to say I love the Faerun Map, but the bright red was a bit jarring. The Gold province border is a little harder to make out, but much more easy on the eyes.
Also, I love the compression I get on rars. Not quite like uharc, but then not much is. Strange, I thought rar is as ubiquitous as zip nowadays.

Re: MAPS: Edi\'s Map Projects
I admit that I will probably have to start offering my maps as RARs also. With Dom3 going from 500 max to 1500 max on provinces, and new programs such as SemiRand to create interesting map files, a zip it getting really really big. If I create my "daily maps" pages like I did with Dom2 then Im probably going to have to offer ZIP and RAR

Re: MAPS: Edi\'s Map Projects
Grrr.
I have to admit that the compression is better on RAR's, but you have to remember that us old timers started with pkunzip on the command line and now Windoze XP comes with it as part of the operating system with makes it very easy to just use zips.

Re: MAPS: Edi\'s Map Projects
Actually, the file size is almost the same whether rar or zip. Unless my eyes were deceiving me, I was getting better compression with the zip format than the rar...
Anyone who feels like it can modify the border color to what they want. I suppose it should be toned down, but as I said, I wanted to get the map out. I will probably change that sometime in the future to see if I can find a better color.
